Is it possible to run an Airbnb business legally in Thailand?

Featured Replies

No, sorry, some decisions are out of the condominium owner's hands.  A condo owner might be pondering the decision on whether or not to get a dog but if the condo bylaws prohibit pets that decision has already been made for him.  Same with short-term rentals--most condo bylaws prohibit it and in many places local statutes prohibit it as well--and for all the reasons I mentioned before and many others.  In Thailand's case, the Hotel Law prohibits it.  If you are looking for sympathy for the poor condo investor who bought a condo and is being prevented from renting it short-term, look elsewhere.  Any condo buyer should be well-versed in the local condo laws as well as the specific condo bylaws before making a purchase.  I suspect most condo buyers know that short-term rentals are illegal but bought anyway.  Remember, ALL condo buyers are investors and a property purchase is usually one of the biggest investments  people make--and want to protect.  Remember, also, that your Thailand condo investor isn't being prevented from renting his condo--just prevented from renting it short-term.

Airbnb is fighting back!

Airbnb faces worldwide opposition. It plans a movement to rise up in its defence

“Homesharing clubs are simply a way of organising this into something … that has a unified voice … then actually takes actions as a collective,” he says, in a less than clear answer.

More simply, homesharing clubs are advocacy groups made up of Airbnb hosts – loose, informal lobbying groups that push the company’s agenda to politicians. The clubs are part of a what is fast becoming a concerted fightback by Airbnb
