memorable things about your time in LOS

sorry but i just read a yahoo story about people doing a coin flip to decide if to leave a job or not. and now it reminds me of a story to share here.

first time coming over her or even anywhere in asia was back in mar/apr2004 for 1 month in bkk and phuket. 2nd time was later that yr in dec and jan 2005,  went to meet a lady that i had met in phuket but lived in udonthani, (image that) well this was mid dec and after a few days i realized that the original magic was not there anymore so i gracially said my good byes and went back to my hotel room alone.. dec 19 2004.  now obvoiusly not wanting to stay in udon, i had to think where to go.  bkk been there done that..  phuket, ok maybe as i am alone but know a little of the lay of the land, where to go what to do, but i have heard stories of this place called pattaya..  not having much to do with computers i did not even know where this was..  yes green behind the ears.. to tell the honest truth when i arived the first time i did not know that a lady drink was more expensive than a normal drink or what a bar fine was..  totally off the boat

so anyway know i am up in udon and trying to decide where to go. so i say either phuket or some place called pattaya.   i flipped a coin and it came up pattaya.  i go to the airport and book a flight for bkk take a taxi to pattaya.  the taxi driver asks me where your hotel and i dont have one, he dumps me off in the middle of soi8 and says good bye.   ok i find hotel and all is good..  dec 26 2004 and shit hits the fan sunami hits.....   i always like to stay beach front, so if the coin had of been the other way around most likely i would still be swimming back to canada.

true story and it shows the power or luck of a coin toss.  at least to me.

so later in 05 moved to thailand permantly and have never bought a bar or opened a restaurant.  had my fun with the bar girls and finally settle down with a lady for the last 8 yrs,   we travel around the world as i have no other hobbies. nothing inher name and life is ok

so what is hugely memmorable for you?  interesting stories?

I too, had a coin flip when about to come to Thailand for the first time. I stood at Heathrow Airport, backpack on my shoulders, and took out a precious 10p coin. As I flipped it into the air, I thought to myself,

Heads I go, Tails I don't stay".

Thought this was supposed to be a question.

It is a question, the poster told you about the flip of a coin, he just did not need

to write so much to say so little, I do think it is an interesting topic though.

I once dropped a 1 Baht coin on the floor of 711. I never bent over to pick it up so don't know which side it landed on. Feel free to steal this story if you want.

Nor did I, I couldn't see the bloody thing.....

Just a little thingie, but the kind you just can't forget. First time here, I lived in a kind of serviced apartment place and nobody of the Thai staff spoke even a bit of English. The office there, was the place to go for every matter whatever it was, cleaning, laundry, complaints, payments....everything. So I left a bag with laundry there and they obviously understood what to do with it because there where no questions, they just tagged the bag with my room number. Anyway few days later come back to office and I ask for "Laundry", I get the empty blank stare by three staff....I say "Laundry" slowly and repeatedly and form my hands like a bag. still no response. Then I see bag of Laundry on the floor....I point at it and say "Laundry", one of the staff replies "Lolli?", At this point I did not have experience enough to do the connection...so I repeat "No!...Laundry"......they say "Lolli?" several times and talk among themselves where the word "Lolli" appears frequently and a lot of pointing to the bag on the floor and finally I make the connection so I say "Yes! Lolli me" and point to the bag and then to me and I get my "Lolli".

Left my diamond white gold ring my mother gave me 2 days before she died on bed table.

Had a lovely Thai visitor slipped out of the room left the Thai alone. Forgetting ring was out. Also engraved LOVE MUM.

THEY are just lovely :)

She sent a sms I are sorry. I was wondering what for. I soon came to realize what for. But I did not have the number I deleted it. This ring was in safe.

Rat I hoped she would get hit by a car

My dentist gave me a filling and as always it was great, cheap and painless. I went back 6 months later complaining of a wisdom tooth which she took out. I went to pay and she refused saying she should have spotted it 6 months ago. It was her fault.

I have many more memorable stories.

Depending on your primary professional qualification you would need to contact either the Thai Medical Council or the Thai Nursing Board. Having arranged to take the Thai professional examinations you could apply for registration and a licence to practice.

I presume you speak/read/write Thai to a professional standard if not I would suggest you may be chasing a dream which will never come to fruition.
