Name on building permit

Featured Replies

Hi,

My wife owns the land, her name alone is on the chinote. The guy at the tamboon office is tuning up the plans I made, getting an engineer to sign off on them & making a building permit. I would like to get both our names on the building permit. Is this possible? I know a lot of foreigners build on rented land so i'm thinking it is.

My wife has my last name & I'm American, if that's relevant.

Thanks!

I am struggling to find a reason you want to do this.

The permit is essentially planning approval and only last 12 months.

Unless a mortgage company has specifically asked for it as a pre requisite condition of you as guarantor then you really dont need to bother.

But sorry I couldnt answer your question.

The goal is to get a yellow book when the house is completed. From what I've read (including a couple threads on TV), one doesn't want to go in empty handed. I was hoping to baffle them with supporting documents when the time comes.

Thanks!

No baffling required because when property is built you get a permanent address of stay and then you can apply for a yellow book.

Name on building permit even if they agreed wouldn't help in applying for yellow house book.

Thanks Kwasaki! Leads to another question. A TV & Google search on permanent address of stay only bring up permanent residency. Is it something I will need to apply for at tamboon office? Will it be available upon house address being issued or only upon completion of building?

Appreciate any info on the subject!

Thanks much!

Having your name on a building permit probably wont mean much towards getting a yellow book. Most Amphers will have a list of documents they want for a yellow book. Usually, blue book for property, proof you live there (resident cert from immigration), some translations of passport etc. Every ampher is different.

My wrong using permanent although it is to me personally   mine is my address of stay which you probably know you have to report every 90 days.

You will just keep on using the address you have now for 90 day reports until your wife receives a blue house book from the local gov office that has given the property an official address.

Until that happens there's no point in applying for your yellow house book.

Great info, thanks guys!  I can see I'll be using this forum throughout this process and hopefully can contribute.  ;-)

You are married so I assume you live somewhere...together. Thats all you need; the usual paperwork, a visa that is valid for at least a month from when you apply and in my case the local head man who can spin a reet yarn about what a great asset to community you are.

The fact that you are building a house together, is just lovely for the tabien baan  lady to see some real evidence that you are worthy of a little yellow book.

everything here is one step at a time.

I have my name on the "permit to build". With that all the utilities in my name was a breeze. Easy for utilities since I have a yellow house book (which at the time showed a different address). I had a yellow house book prior to building a home. The yellow house book was ONE of the "options" for getting the permit to build. They wanted proof of where I live in order to obtain the permit to build. Once I had a yellow house book, based on a completely different address, all manner of banking, auto registration, became much easier. No more fees for documents fro the Embassy or Immigration.  The permit to build is rock solid on how large your home is for insurance purposes. The permit to build is not issued until your plans are approved. for 30 baht for the document plus .25 stang per square meter of the house plan a very inexpensive item.
