SINGAPORE: -- Myanmar was named the world’s most generous country for the third consecutive year while Singapore was ranked the 28th, its best ever showing in the latest Charities Aid Foundation World Giving Index, The Straits Times Online reported on Wednesday.

The annual index, which complied an average of 1,000 responses from 140 countries, looked at three major yardsticks: helping strangers, donating money and volunteering time.

Singapore climbed up six sports from last year to the 28th due to its improvement in two areas: helping strangers and donating, the best ranking ever registered since the index was launched in 2010.
