The other issue with regards to shipping to Thailand is Paypal.

Paypal will not authorize a payment for goods with a Thai delivery address. I literally went through this two days ago when ordering something from an online store in the UK.

The only way to get it processed was to use my US billing address as the shipping address, then the vendor manually changed it in their system (I hope at least).

I guess I'll know shortly if that worked!

You better use a Thai name for parcels. I did that for years on my wife's name at her office but since they all started doing it the big boss has told them to stop it.

The problem is when we  buy from ebay we don't know which courier will be used here in Thailand. Thailand post does NOT put a note in the mailbox when you're not hoome but at least the tracking works. They also don't pick up the phone and you can't park there because the taxi's took the parkinglot.

Your experience differs from mine, I always receive a not when I'm away.

It boils down to the interplay between Thai customs and the people who order stuff in Thailand, which I'm guessing is mostly expats.

Back in the early days of Amazon they would send anything to Thailand without a fuss but Thai customs started applying the standard extortionate Thai tax rates and instructed the post office to withhold delivery until payment by the buyer.

It's actually pretty straightforward to sort out; you go to the post office, pay up and off you go with your package. However, this seems to be a bit too much for a lot of people who then went and left a lot of bad feedback on Amazon.

Amazon knows that it's not their fault, they know that customs is customs in any country, but they were sick and tired of people kicking up a shitstorm on their site so they just pulled the plug on deliveries to Thailand altogether for most product categories. They still send books though.

iHerb and some other retailers have taken a different tack; they give you the option to use registered post such as DHL, FedEx et al which will guarantee that your shipment will be declared and taxed at customs . . . or you can take your chances with standard post which is far too numerous for customs to check other than by random sample.

I've only ever had to go to the post office a few times out of the 20 odd orders I've made with iHerb so far.

"They don't pick up the phone"

My Missus told me the same thing when two out of three packages didn't arrive following one week after the first one.    They were all sent at the same time from the same place.

I looked up a number of the post office in Bangkok and called it.     No waiting for an answer and  I handed the phone to the Missus.     The lady who answered  after hearing the tracking number generated by the USPS said the packages would be delivered in the afternoon even though we're hundreds of kilometers from Bangkok and Swampy.

Maybe it's just local post offices that fail to answer the phone.

Might be a local issue but we live in BKK. My missus has a busy job and has to go abroad often as well. No time for going to postoffice which will take 2 hours in traffic at least.

The next time i see the courier i will ask him why he won't put a note in my mailbox. He always wais a lot to me but refuses to take off his sunglasses, how rude!

My wife told me that it's possible (for 30 baht extra) to get the packages delivered on sundaymorning which would be perfect.

I don't know how to arrange that though. Also i don't expect the postoffice to speak english.

The packages i am missing all cost less than 500 baht, i don't dare to buy expensive things with a crappy postal service like we get.

Thailand should get it's priority's straight, without good postal service the development stops and the whole country gets an even worse reputation overseas.

I won't even order from China anymore and let my wife bring it, she's in Shenzen right now so i let them deliver packages to her hotelroom...

Would it help if i call the Thai board for consumer protection? I need to buy hi-tech parts from China which are not available in Thailand since it's still a 3rd world banana country.

Crappy service for people like you who understand nothing, certainly !

Thai post is good and only people who understand nothing can't understand this.

I also keep my sunglasses and never take them off even for cops, who do you think you are ?

Why do you need to call if you have a tracking to check online ?

Just as my stupid customers who are not even able to understand what tracking results show ?

Thanks for suggesting I'm stupid..

Three packages mailed the same time from same place and one arrives.   Six days pass and we call to inquire.

Same tracking information but it stops at BKK.   I posted a call to the Bangkok post office resolved everything.   Do you have any other complaint?

Sorry you have such issues with your STUPID customers.      Are you a customer friendly supplier?    It sounds suspicious.     Number one in business is to take care of customers.

I'm going to bite the bullet and buy a few low cost things from Lazada and find out if they get here or not as well as doing so  without BS customs charges.

I bought a Kindle online via Lazada (IIRC) a few months ago.

The 'tracking' was all over the place - i.e. it was delivered when the tracking was saying that it had just been shipped - but can't complain about it turning up earlier than expected!

The delivery man gave me an invoice for a couple of hundred bht customs duties which I paid, but on opening the package there was a note/letter saying something along the lines of 'If you're charged custom duties, let us know and we will refund the amount paid'!

I didn't bother for such a small amount, but I've no reason to doubt that they would have repaid the amount charged by the delivery company.

Tracking does NOT work in Thailand. It stops at Bangkok, yes i'm very stupid..:passifier::passifier:

I also had to pay 20 baht for a package worth 200 baht, don't know why since the not stupid postman couldn't sapee inli.

Now i got 3 parcels refunded from Ebay, works great. But it's a matter of time before Thailand will be on the black list internationally. Also there are too many postal/courier services. I can't be bothered to study all of that and just claim a refund if i don't get a parcel nor a note.

But the postman found a new way to deliver, he gave it to my neighbour who passed it to me...i don't mind but that will end up like in europe where couriers are ringing doorbells of the whole street to get rid of their packages. That also doesn't work.

Would be nice if the security guards can receive parcels since they sit at my soi 24 hrs.

Well i am out in the North east and have no problems with tracking parcels from England and the USA through the Thai post website, just remember that the Country that the parcel is sent from stops tracking once the parcel is received by Thai Post but you can then track the parcel on the Thai Post website

I know that and checked it but the info there is not relevant. I'v read wrong info on the thai post website. Things like they can't read our address or it doesn't exist. The address was printed in big letters and correct.

Or the parcel was at the immigration at the infosite but i already received it 2 hours later.

I will order more from China and claim a refund if it won't be delivered. Many products cost 2-3-4 times more here in BKK, even in Chinatown.

I need more technical parts and will fly to Shenzen electrical market myself, i heard it's very big there and they have it all in stock. Chinatown is the ONLY place in BKK for technical stuff afaik. But it's almost impossible to go there and makes you very tired. They also won't show the price and can't speak english.

I just claimed another refund, ordered by ebay from china and didn't arrive within 30 days.

But ebay.uk is not a good to start an issue, will only buy from ebay.com and in thailand from banggood.com only from now on.

I bet the postmen are stealing my packages. 5-6 times in row now.
