rooster59 Posted October 29, 2016 Share Posted October 29, 2016 Heavy rain brings "flash floods" to Pattaya Friday evening Heavy and continual rain in Pattaya on Friday led to a situation nothing short of flash flood proportions. Pictures and video on Facebook showed a motorcyclist on Khao Noi Road battling valiantly against the raging waters - only to fail as the torrent overwhelms him and he falls off his bike. Passers-by rushed to give him assistance. Daily News reported that the rain came down fast and heavy with parts of the city resembling the sea. "Sonram Red" posted the motorcyclist picture while "Nokiiz Naphatsorn" uploaded shots of the area in front of Amporn Seafood on Sai 3 Road. You want to see a mess, go out to the Darkside and see what they are doing to Soi Siam Country. In has been going and going on for as long as they been digging the tunnel on Sukhumvit. They dug up one side of the road, put in drains that are 2 feet above the current road. Then they decided to leave to work on another project and left the road a mess unfinished and due to the rain the road is starting to cave in? The water looks pretty muddy. no. the entire terrain in that area slopes downward to the bay. It doesn't take much of a rainfall to get the drains backed up. It has been that way for years and will continue that way. The water is filthy and full of debris and garbage, but it really isn't from hills. The interesting thing will be how that new tunnel/underpass thing works out. If they really did design the pumps there to keep that dry during a rainstorm, then they will be pumping an awful lot of water around or over to someplace. (While in reality continuing yet more construction that makes it worse). Last year was very dry and people seem to have forgotten this usually more frequent flooding. By then flooding will be a distant memory and we will be back to covering drains and filling them with trash. Golden Triangle Posted October 30, 2016 Share Posted October 30, 2016 They finished laying new drains and resurfacing the road I live on a few months back, now after all this rain the drain grates are full of rubbish, leaves & sand so are effectively blocked, does anyone come and clean them ? You are right about the latest construction but go down further Siam Country, where the power plant is or further down from the market. This started as a small hole as they started digging it became bigger they found their were a like a river running under the road. The more they dug the larger it got? Go down pass Soi 13, on Siam.. leading up to where the signal lights are and they been working on that for at least a year. I seems done but one side is closed off. Then there is the road that starts near the bottom of NernPludwan, 7/11 you make a right and that road leads straight up to the Pattana International school. They been working on that road for close to two years and the top is still unfinished. Last Tuesday, in spite of many of the road they have dug up and put in new drains there was still folding. The bottom of NernPludwan Soi 41? and beyond was 3 plus feet high and they added new drains up and down that road. The sad thing about the flooding on the Darkside and construction on Siam Country is how many businesses on that road has closed due to the construction. I use this road daily and I can attest to 24 shops that closed. The biggest and hardest hit is the restaurant on the corner of Siam and Sukhumvit.
