several posters have mentioned a stamp or something placed in their passport that shows that the Thai folks who own the place where they live currently are in compliance with reporting their (both that of the Thai folks and the 'foreigner') address as being at their property.... if it is a private residence.  not hotel or condos but a normal everyday privately owned home.  and not the 90 day letter but another stamp or something in their passport. required when you visit an immigration office in country, not the border crossing offices. or maybe both, I have no idea. somethng new?

I think you are referring to a receipt from a TM30 being lodged. TM30 is the document lodged by the house master to report a foreigner staying. Its not a new law, but recently has been enforced more, some immigration offices (mainly Chaing Mai) will not process 90 day or extension if no TM30 has been lodged.

Some people now keep the receipt from TM30 in there passport to avoid any problems. I dont think it is a requirement to keep  this in your passport.

They are not stamping the passport, They are stamping the TM30 report receipt.

I think Chiang Mai immigration is the only office doing it.

It is not something new, I have 2 TM30 receipts in my passport, put there some time ago when my wife was asked to submit a TM30. When she did the second one, immigration did not remove the first, they stapled it closed and put the second on top.

The TM30 is similar to the TM47 in that it has a tear off receipt at the bottom so one would assume that if a physical TM30 is used then the receipt should be used, but not sure how that would stand with online notification as used by hotels.
