Australian wanted on torture charges spotted free in Bangkok

Bangkok: An Australian man wanted in Queensland on kidnapping and torture charges has been photographed socialising in Bangkok bars.

Australian authorities made no attempt to have Guido James Eglitis,70, extradited from Cambodia where he was arrested last year following the alleged robbery and assault of a British man who reportedly fled the country in fear of his life.

Witnesses have seen and photographed Eglitis drinking in the N'Joy bar and restaurant in Bangkok's Sukhumvit Road entertainment area on Sunday and Monday nights.

Good guys in and bad guys go for a drink. Seems rather normal for the amoral Thai government Bangkok: is where the good, really bad and beautiful mingle freely.

Unfortunately, if his permission to stay is OK it appears that the immigration policy on the matter puts him in the Good guys camp.

Right?......................

Your hatred for Thailand is shining through. This has nothing to do with Thailand. You should be looking at the amoral Australian govt that gave Cambodia $a50 million plus to take 4 refugees and also let Eglitus out of Australia.Ask yourself why this man gained his freedom in Cambodia.

Closer than what you think.  These guys are all part of La Familia, even in Australia.

All good points...

But why let those facts get in the way of a little gratuitous Thai-bashing?

Wanted Australian released from prison and deported

Wed, 2 November 2016

An Australian man, wanted by police in his native country on kidnapping and torture charges, was released from Siem Reap provincial prison and deported to Thailand last week and has since been pictured enjoying the nightlife in Bangkok.

Accompanied by immigration officials to the departure gate at Siem Reap International Airport, Guido James Eglitis, 70, flew to Thailand at 9:30pm on October 29, hours after completing his sentence and being released from custody, Siem Reap Immigration Police chief Chea Kimsan said yesterday.

Eglitis was arrested in October 2015 and subsequently convicted of assaulting UK national David Scotcher during a home invasion in Siem Reap. At the time of his arrest, it emerged that Eglitis had also been charged in Queensland for the 2007 abduction and torture of a businessman in Brisbane, but had reportedly skipped on bail.

Probably here to learn a trick or two from the RTP

He must have impersonated  Harry Houdini , to escape from Cambodia, then got a Visa under disguise to stay in LOS

Very clever he has baffled the Aussies and the Thais.

Apologies to Cambodian officials that i may have cast aspersions on.Caught out by TVF feeding the facts out slowly after the initial "shock"headline,as per usual.I should know better.

"In the wake of his capture, Queensland police told the Post they were “making enquiries into the possible extradition”

Arh,Qld police,this explains everything.

So he was all alleged to have committed a crime in Cambodia. The Cambodian authorities released him. Exactly what has this got to do with Australia?

Does Australian law allow the government to prosecute their citizens for crimes committed worldwide?

How would the Australian government collect evidence to prosecute the alleged crime?

read more carefully. He was wanted for crimes committed in Australia and escaped in 2007 while on bail during his trial. THEN he committed crimes in Cambodia, and just about every where he went afterward I suppose.

So he's an escaped fugitive on the run. Now I understand why Australia should be trying to get him back.
