Thai Airways extends selection period to find new president

BANGKOK: -- Thai Airways International is extending the period for recruiting a new president until December 2. The selected person will replace current THAI president Charamporn Jotikasthira, whose term ends in February. He has served as president of the national carrier since December 2014.

Based on his contract, his term ends when he turns 60 next year. Somchai Sujjapongse, chairman of the presidential selection committee, said the airline earlier invited interested persons to apply for the top post at the national carrier from September 19 to October 31. “For the sake of Thai Airways International, the company has extended the submission period for the new president until December 2, 2016,” Somchai said in a written announcement last Thursday.

As an international airline why don't they extend thier search ìnternationally and get the best available, someone who can see outside the Thai bubble.

Presidents of big companies including airlines should serve longer than 2 years. High management turnover is one of the reasons for THAI's problems

A non-Thai would struggle with the language as non-front facing staff (including management) rarely speak even elementary English. Also, how do you think a foreigner would cope when faced with massive incompetence and the local way of doing things such as perks, corruption, and relationship not performance based promotions? Not to mention the animosity that many of the locals would feel towards having a foreign boss. So while in an ideal world a foreigner could run Thai much better, the reality is they would fall flat on their face.

there are still several RTAF Air Marshalls to interview yet.....

At least they do not need to stoop to employing a foreign expert in airline management. Pity FooFoo is not available.

I bought a ticket to Singapore today, Thai air costs 3x more than Cathay Pacific...they better hurry up.

Similar price comparisons for tickets Bkk to Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City.

A few months back I got a call to get to a client at Samut Prakan BKK urgently from Chiang Mai. I went quickly to CM airport and went to the Thai sales counter asked what is the fare for next flight. I got the obvious attitude of 'oh my god, another stupid person', along with 'go and check the website'. I responded 'I need to know quickly', the supervisor answered with attitude ' about 2,000Baht' and walked away.

Yes they are very arrogant, also the stewaredesses in their planes are. And the food is miniature portions these days of low quality.

Also they have a trend to have delay when departing.

So there's a lot to improve for Thai air, all this loss goes from the taxpayers money. I won't use them anyway.

Perhaps the extended time for applications means there have been no applications so far...

I'm surprised the PM doesn't have someone in mind, doesn't anyone in his circle need a job or a reward ?

Experience, is that a prerequisite ?

Arrogant yes, lazy too.

My worst experience, traveling with my Thai 18 yr old son in business class, both of us travelling on the highest price / highest flexibility tickets.

Meal all finished, cabin very quiet, son politely asked hostess for a glass of Coca-Cola. Hostess dismissive response 'go and ask in economy class', and just walked away.

Trump?

Trump is already a president,  ( elect) but his competitor might want to try and wing it.
