Girl, 15, dies in a hail of bullets in Bangkok shooting

BANGKOK: -- A 15 year old Pak Kret girl died after she was shot multiple times in the early hours of Monday morning.

A 16 year old youth was attacked with a sword and is fighting for his life, reports Sanook.

The incident happened near the end of Prachacheun Soi 8/1 opposite the Thurakit Bandit University at 2am.

A witness said that a group of friends out for a ride on their motorcycles were surrounded by a rival group comprising about ten motorcycles.

Some raced off but the girl - a 'Tom' named only as Pheung - could not escape in time.

She was shot multiple times and ended up being catapulted into the roadside klong as the motorcycle she was on hit the sidewalk. The other youth riding was then attacked with a sword.

A member of the public ferried him to hospital on another bike. He was being treated in emergency at Monkut Wattana Hospital for a deep gash to his back.

The dead girl's mother Thianwan, 35, arrived on the scene in tears.

Her daughter had only asked for permission to go out with friends and now this happened, she said.

Pheung was a M2 (Year 9) student at Karn Kheha Tha Sai school.

Police are interviewing friends in her gang to get a lead in the case.

So mum lets her daughter go out at night with boys. :post-4641-1156693976:RIP

How important is it that everyone be told she is a "Tom?"

My utmost sympathy to the girls family but you have to question, why on earth would a 15 year old girl or boy, be out on a Monday at 2.00am. This can and has lead to trouble. Sadly there is no lesson learned for the girl, as she is dead.

15 years old out with friends at 2 in the morning. She should have been at home sleeping like most 15 years old. But what can I say our teenage daughter does not come home weekends and some times for 10 or more days when school is out. Wife has no problem with it. Kids do what they want and parents just can watch them destroy their life's.

What is these gangs all about anyway?

They seems to be everywhere, in every city/town and call other gangs enemies and often kills each other on sight?

Yes what on earth are they doing out at 2am on a weekday when they have to go to school later same day?

Back in my old country we have problems with biker gangs but they are grown up people and they fight mostly over drug related things.

A rival gang surrounded them? What gang was she involved? 2am out and about? RIP, but there's more to this story.

Age 15-16, on motorcycles, out after 10pm...

Any surprise on the outcomes of their activities? Hormones overriding brain cells!

Nothing to get upset about.

The reporter described it as he saw it. Had it been a ladyboy, he would have said a ladyboy.

I don't think you can tell whether a persons sexuality by looking at a bullet-ridden body.   I don't think it's relevant to the story and it's probably something neither she nor her family wished to advertise.   She was, after all, only 15.

Pretty sure that should be "Dhurakij Pundit University".  So much for journalistic standards.  However, the "Bandit" bit does seem apposite.

Another lovely person now on another journey,  forever young, RIP little one.

Same thing happened in my village 2 moinths ago. Rival gangs, One dead after being rammed by a truck. Police sorted it. All 9 lads of the gang that caused the death ordered to pay 80,000bt to the Police. (some MAY be distributed to the family of the deceased)  No criminal proceedings. The murderer has now just been conscripted into the army for 2 years. Big pre army party as usual. <deleted>!

THIS IS THAILAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After thirty five years associated with  Thailand I'm sure that under previous Junta rule lawlessness seemed to spiral out of control and no-one wanted to take responsibility till the people or students in this case took back control , is history repeating itself , although gangs and drugs are now a blight on Thai society , where are they getting these weapons from the position will only get worse with an ineffectual police force and an even more ineffectual government ..............................................:coffee1:

Have you given up teaching both your wife and your stepdauther anything in life...well ME too..no one listen to any advice..sorry to say.

"A witness said that a group of friends out for a ride on their motorcycles were surrounded by a rival group comprising about ten motorcycles."

It's not as though each motorcycle was alone heading to the destination. With the way crime is increasing these days, large packs of bikes should raise some suspicion. However, and it is definitely not unique to Thailand, people just don't want to get involved with anything that might cause them any hassle. Although I might not see the relevance of bringing up that the victim was a "Tom", it does introduce the possibility that this was a hate crime. Which if proves to be true, would make this information very relevant.

I feel for her family who lost a daughter whose only crime was that she was acting like a normal 15 year-old, hanging out with her friends. Unfortunately, I am having a difficult time figuring out what is "normal' these days. The same problem every adult in past generations had trying to figure out the youth of their time period.

'Normal' is not what others are doing.

Here in Thailand you absolutely can tell from looking at a Thai girl if she is a Tom.   Everyone, including her family, would have known she was a Tom.

She was a tom

These kind of events don't just happen. To treat it as an isolated incident is absurd.  Kids in school gangs is a deeply rooted problem and the junta has not done much to move toward a remedy.  If kids from expensive private schools were at war with each other, just maybe the authorities would take notice or maybe not.

Easy to invoke mum and dad's wisdom but there is an innocent girl shot. RIP/

Nice....lovely thailand...well at least for now, the are only killing each other.

Youth gangs in Thailand have been around for decades.Mostly formed at the so called technical schools where they are supposed to be learning a trade.17 years ago in the Mall Bangkapi ,where I was teaching, 2 gangs of up to 25 youths were running around the mall with knives ,chasing each other ,security just stood and watched.Didnt even make the news.

It may answer some questions for Thai speakers. I presume that it is a translation of 'tomboy' which is not derogatory, rather is shows that she was not the shy retiring type, unsurprising that she would be out with the lads. Makes many of the questions asked by those of us who judge Thais Western standards, unnecessary for Thai people I suppose.

More senseless generalizations.

And the article calling it  'a group of friends out for a ride'  is pretty far off base too.

What comes first? A mother who let her daughter out late at night but has every right to expect a safe and secure society? Or an increasingly lawless society with little motivation or action to bring this under check? There are good laws that are in place in Thailand; that are not respected and enforced as well as they should and in the meantime keep your kid away from trouble.

They probably get more readers when the story sounds like a soap opera.

You know that look of rapt approval that women get on their face when you give them lifestyle advice?  No? That's funny, Me neither!!

Even if the murderers are caught, it's most likely they'll get off relatively easy.  Thais hate to discipline Thais.  If they can blame it on a Burmese or a hill triber, they would.   If the murderers are from rich families or connected to VIP's, they'll get off as sternly as the Red Bull murderer who is sitting comfortably in Singapore.

....or maybe limp-wristed authorities will blame it on drinking alcohol, or some other soggy excuse.   When will the murderers murder again?   If they get off this time, they'll be seen as heroes by their buddies. With inflated egos, they'll likely continue to be problematic.
