Lengthy Jail Terms For Chinese Gang Behind Horribly Botched Robbery

BANGKOK — Four Chinese men were ordered imprisoned for over 30 years for the bungled attempted robbery of a gun shop in Chinatown nine months ago.

 

Yang Zheng, Geng Ma, Kunpeng Li and Junwei Sun were convicted on multiple counts and sentenced to lengthy prison terms Tuesday morning at the Criminal Court on Ratchadapisek Road in Bangkok.

I am sure if they were Thai, a quick trip to the tailors for some saffron robes and some quality waiing and six months on their butts in the Wat. Yeah, right. Wrong nationality, wrong social class.

Chinese guns hop robbers sentenced to 34-35 years in prison

 

 

The Criminal Court today sentenced four Chinese robbers who robbed a gun shop at Wang Burapha with BB guns to 34-35 years in prison after finding them guilty of five charges.

 

Gang leader Sun Junwei gets 35 years and four months in jail, and a 3,000 baht fine, and three other accomplices Li Kunpeng, Ma Geng, and Jeng Yang receive 34 years and eight months in prison, and a fine of 3,000 baht each.

 

The four were charged for the attempt robbery of guns from Interarm gun shop with knives and BB guns on March 3 this year.

Five Chinese were involved in the attempted robbery, but one was shot dead by police.

 

In the hearing at the Criminal Court today, they were charged with the robbery of 3.8 million baht worth of shotgun, pistols, revolvers and a Toyota Fortuner van belonging to the gun shop owner Pakorn Daenglamai and escaped.

BANGKOK: -- Four Chinese men were Tuesday jailed for more than 30 years each at Ratchadapisek Criminal Court for attempting to rob a Bangkok gun shop using air pistols and knives.

 

Arriving on two rented motorcycles bearing fake plates on March 4, the Chinese gang stormed into the Inter Arms gun shop in the Wang Burapha Pirom area, brandishing three knives and two BB air guns.

They stabbed shop owner Pakorn Daenglamai and an employee before making off with 15 firearms and a pickup truck.

Harsh: almost as severe as the seniors picking mushrooms in the national park. Meanwhile, kill a cop in the booze and drug haze at 150k in your Ferrari....another matter altogether.

If you're gonna give this kind of jail time for this type of crime, you have to give relatively lengthy sentences for other crimes.

 

Can't go easy on some serious crimes and not on others. Either way - if punishments are harsh, mediocre or soft, they have to apply equally for all.

I think Thailand has about triple the prison population as the UK (similar general population). I did wonder if some of the rumours of the legalisation of some drugs was to do with reducing this.

 

Then again, compare these very long sentences with some of the ludicrously lenient ones that we hear about in the "liberal" UK.

Do the courts think after getting 30 odd years in prison that a 3000 baht fine will cause any hardship

why is it that we get to hear the results of this case but it is so difficult to hear the results of so many other cases?

Clearly they are barking mad.  Used BB guns to rob a store where the staff use real bullets
