City administration braces for heavy rains on Thursday

In anticipation of heavy rains for the time being until Thursday as forecasted by the Meteorological Department, the City Administration has instructed all districts, especially in 21 areas identified as vulnerable to flooding, to install pumps and to discharge water out of klongs into the Chao Phraya river to leave more space to absorb rain water.

According to the Weatherman, there is a possibility that the rainfall may exceed 70 mm per hour which is regarded as heavy and can flood low-lying areas, especially the 21 vulnerable areas.

But for the long-term plan, the City Plan will improve the drainage system, the water tunnels and find empty space to be used as “monkey cheek” to absorb excess water and this will take about two years, said an informed source in the City Administration.
