Cross border trade hit as Trump victory hits Malaysian Ringgit

Cross border trade suffered a major blow as the Malaysian Ringgit tumbled after  the victory of Donald Trump in the US election.

 

On Friday morning the Malaysian currency dropped like a stone to 7.8 baht - it's lowest point in 30 years.

 

Thai Rath reported that this has had a major effect on Thai traders at the border. They were no longer able to see any profit on their products after the massive fall.

 

Gold also took a huge hit - one baht weight (16.16 grams) fell three hundred baht from 21,400 to 21,100 on Friday.

 

The dollar was trading higher against the baht Saturday with the British pound up around a baht on the news from America.

Of course the stock market is at historic highs as Trump has promised to role back regulations which protect the American public. There will be historic gains and millionaires will be come billionaires but a day of reckoning will come as it did in 2008 / 2009.
