Mellow Spot in CM?

I'm 60, been in BKK 10 years. Been to Chiang Mai just 2 times--once in 1999 (before I moved to Thailand), and once around 2008. A few days total. Saw the night market, the horrendous traffic on loop road, the 'castle'(?). I.e., not much.
My sister (66) is coming in January. We're thinking of heading up there for a few days. Looking for QUIET, CLEAN, CONVENIENT, REASONABLE accommodations in interesting area with decent restaurants, shops nearby.... Recommendations? Thx.

Nuanpranee House is cheap, safe, friendly, and close to a lot of activity.  You can walk from there to nearly everywhere.

The Holiday Inn Chiang Mai is in a quite spectacular location on the River Ping and just on the outskirts of the main city so quieter which should suit you.It's a five to ten minute tuk tuk ride in to the city centre also so very convenient :
