San Antonio police officer fatally shot while writing ticket

SAN ANTONIO, TX: -- A San Antonio police officer writing out a traffic ticket to a motorist was shot to death in his squad car Sunday outside police headquarters by another driver who pulled up from behind, authorities said.

THAI gives rice farmers new direct-sale mechanism

BANGKOK: -- Thai Airways international Plc (THAI) has joined forces with the Commerce Ministry to help farmers struggling from low rice prices by introducing a range of initiative such as farmers selling directly to the carrier’s cooperatives, retail shops and markets.

Princess Sirindhorn is in India to receive first world Sanskrit Award

BANGKOK: -- Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn left last night for India on a six-day official visit on the invitation of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).

 

The Bureau of the Royal Household said Princess Sirindhorn left at 8.00 pm from Suvarnabhumi airport on board Thai Airways International’s Flight TG315 on a six-day official visit from November 20-26 as guest of the ICCR president.

 

During the visit, Her Royal Highness will receive the first world Sanskrit Award bestowed on her by the government of India.

 

The princess, a scholar of Sanskrit, has been active in promoting the use of Sanskrit.

 

In India, the princess will preside over the exhibition of photographs taken by the princess jointly organized by the Royal Thai Embassy and India’s Centre for International Cooperation to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the bilateral relations in 2017.

 

While in India, the princess will also visit significant religious, historic and ancient sites, and visit India’s North Eastern Hill university Shillong.

Syrian government refuses UN truce terms for Aleppo

BEIRUT (AP) — The Syrian government refused the U.N. envoy's latest proposal for a truce in Aleppo on Sunday, calling on insurgents to withdraw and saying it would not grant autonomy to the rebel-held east in exchange for calm.

Bigger protests against Marcos burial

MANILA: -- A broad protest movement is set to greet President Rodrigo Duterte upon his return on Friday for Peru to show the people’s indignation against the burial of former dictator Ferdinand Marcos at Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City and to demand that the Supreme Court orders an exhumation, The Philippine Inquirer Online reported on Monday.

PHUKET: -- German athlete Michael Raelert finished first at the 23rd annual Laguna Phuket Triathlon yesterday, completing the 1.8km swim, 50km bike race and 12km run in 2 hours, 19 minutes and 13 seconds – beating his own record by 11 minutes, which he set when he won the contest last year.
