Russia reacts to Fidel Castro's death

 

 

World leaders paid tribute to socialist Cuban icon Fidel Castro on Saturday.

 

Russian President Vladimir Putin praised the longtime leader, as the “symbol of an era in modern world history”. The Kremlin strongman said that Castro, who he described as a sincere and reliable friend of Russia, had managed to build a “free and independent Cuba” that “became an influential member of the international community and served as an inspiration for many countries.”

 

Putin added that Castro had made a “huge personal contribution” in the establishment and development of the countries’ bilateral relations while former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev hailed the Cuban revolutionary leader for strengthening his island nation.

 

The Cuban government announced on Saturday morning that Fidel Castro’s ashes will be interred at the Santa Ifigenia cemetery in Santiago de Cuba on 4 December.

Hardly free.The thing is with all these happy strongman dictators, everything is cool when they are ruling the roost, but would they be as happy being the commoner under such a regime?

The West hated Castro because he was a thorn in their flesh, being a big friend to those countries seeking to break the shackles of colonialism.

Having said that, it sees a lot of Zimbabweans are hoping for a similar event in their own country.

The difference that Zimbabwe is not under blockade or constant external threat as Cuba was. Yet it is being run into the ground by a Despot. Cuba on the other had given the same freedoms as Zimbabwe could have been a model Socialist Society. Communism and Socialism are not bad systems in themselves but as you find in Western style Democracies powerful interest groups Control them and the masses must just follow along. The difference between them and us is we get to elect our Dictators albeit benevolent and they have their imposed . But IMO there is only a thin veneer between the two systems.

The question you pose is very open ended.But always remember there have been so called 'dictators'(in US eyes)

that have restored order and system to their homelands....Hugo Chavez for one!

 

Free you say!......Politicians whom we vote for are only there to make us believe we have a choice.

The EU is a good example....
