Hi

I've been to Samui many times but have a query that I hope someone can help with...

Having stayed at various hotels in Chaweng I've noticed how the tides can change during the year. Some friends and I are thinking about accomodation for next Feb and quite like some of the hotels at the north end of Chaweng near the reef, but I know that at some times of year the water is lovely - at other times when the tides are lower it gets a bit muddy and not great for swimming.

Any one got an idea how the tides may fall in Feb?

Many thanks

6 months out of the year the wind in Asia goes clockwise, the other 6 months counter clockwise. So, from about Oct-Mar the wind is coming out of the north/northeast. Apr-Sept from the Southwest.

At least on Koh Phangan, that means very low tides on the south and west sides for the Apr-Sept season and alot of water for the Oct-Mar season, while on the north and north east sides, the water will be high Oct-Mar but often the waves can be big.

Not sure how it affects Chaweng, but yif ou can calculate the period in which you came before when the water was nice and when it was muddy, you can figure out how it will be in Feb.

Hope that helps :o

In Feb it blows in to Chaweng.

Conditions in general are reasonable on the beach although there can be undertows, be very carefull of those undertows.
