Khampaeng Phet Immigration office now open

My mate told me last week that the Khampaeng Phet Immigration Office is now up and running.

I went there this afternoon about 2.30 to check and it definitely IS open.

The lady at the back looked over my passport and was a little disappointed that I didnt need anything until January.

There were no customers and 4 staff. There is coffee but no chocolate biscuits and I was also offered one of those Yakult yogurt drinks which I politely refused.

Seems like a nice place so far but it will take a while for them to get used to us and us to get used to them.

Have a great weekend.

My weekend started on 23rd May 2009 which was the day I retired from work in New Zealand.

I assume that you want the location of the office.

Head south from Khampaeng Phet on the AH1 as it can only be approached directly heading south.

Almost directly on the opposite side of the road is the route 1117 and you need to turn into the big building on your left behind a gas station. Turn left and then right across the front of the government building and the Immigration office is directly in front of you next to the toilets block.

On Google Earth the co-ordinates are 16.24.33.33 N and 99.31.20.20 East.

To return to the North travel about 700 metres South and make a U turn.

Coming from the South on route 1/AH1 there is a U turn just North of the route 1117 at Klong Mee Lai.

From the route 1117 turn North and U turn.

I hope that this may be of use to you.

Great, thanks for this. I am in the process of setting up thread with the information regarding the address of all Immigration offices in the provinces in the Central forums. This should be a great help to members finding the way around.
Sorry about the other messages, my fingers won't do what they are supposed to do sometimes.

That road between Tak and Mae Sot Scares me, well probably not the road so much as the people using it.

My wife refuses to ever  go there again.

The last time I went on a fairly long trip on my motorbike I came back that way but that was a couple of years ago.

All I could smell for about 50 km was burning asbestos from brake linings.

It doesnt scare me so much as terrify me on a motorbike.

Like your wife, I dont ever want to go there again.

The road between Tak Mae Sot is getting a lot better. They are in the proses of widening it going to be 2/3 lanes both ways. And not as before 1/2.

That is "in the proses" as it's not finished but in a few months??? should be mostly Ok.

At present it'll take a little more time to complete the journey so allow for same.

Sorry to say it's still not going to stop the idiots that drive on it but you will have more of a chance of arriving at your destination in one piece well maybe.

N/B once you have been on that route several (hundred) times you get to know how it works traffic wise. IE lories sitting in the middle of the road. With your fingers crossed, you just have to undertake. Then there's the plonkers that overtake on your side of the road on blind bends all part of the fun !!!

On a good day weather wise you do get some lovely views though.

Just had a thought you do need a powerful car with good brakes. If you have a Nody car and your loaded you will have problems overtaking or even stopping.

Tip drive well within your means.

Good report Bill. English spoken by any of the Immigration staff?

3 out of the 4 staff speak fair English and the lady speaks it the best.

No English sense of humour yet but I will work on them along with fredob43.

I do have a sense of humour. Lacking somewhat at present, due to the bloody weather in the UK -9c last night.

All will be back to normal hopefully, once I've returned next week.

Bill.

Have obtained a book on how to make coffee for the G/L. Hopefully it won't taste like Old Sump Oil next time.

Don't raise your hopes to much it is in English, but it does have some nice pictures for her to follow.

It was a nice cool 22C this morning warming up to a comfortable 31 after lunch.

It isn't the sump oil I mind so much but the crunchy metal bits play hell with my dentures.

Just what I need to know Temp: wise. Thanks a bunch Bill.

Improving tonight going right up? to -7c.

Just a thought you can always take your dentures out, can supply a glass of water.

Tip don't leave them on the table top as the Dog (that's the one with the big teeth that bit you) might think their a treat.

It really depends on which province you live in and physically where you live as well. The Immigration office for Tak province is in Mae Sot, on the left not far past the entry to the bridge to Myanmar. (At least it used to be).

So if you live north, east or west of Tak that is where you should go. If however you live south of Tak it might pay you to nip down to KPP and see if they will sign off your 90 day report there.

It is up to them really but they might welcome the custom. For the extension, married or retired I suspect that you will have to go to Mae Sot.

I like the mountain road to Maesot especially on the motorbike it's the bit from Suk to just past Tak l dislike, the Mrs don't like me driving the car fast anywhere and she won't go pillion anymore.
