hello could someone please help me with some questions .

I am planning to go to Thailand soon staying in bangkok  , this is my first trip overseas and I am hoping to leave in the next month or so .

from what Ive read a tourist visa is a good option as it gives me 60 days and then just before that period is up I could go to the embassy and request an extra stay of 29 days which would take the time up to approx 3 months .  in regards to purchasing a plane ticket could i request an open ended ticket that would allow me to stay in thailand for this period .

the second question I have is ( once the 3 month period is finished ) I would like to stay for another two months with the option of extending out for an extra 30 days .

but how could I do this ?  would i have to fly out of the country and fly back in and then request another two months and then extend it out for another 30  days if the embassy agrees .

or would you do a border run but I am not sure of the rule in regards to this because they are pretty strict and rules are changed often

also do many of the hotels have a computer in the room that i can use , i trade equities occasionally and will need to use a computer a few times a week , is there a rental charge for this service or is it included in the rental fee . thanks for any advice

You would apply for the 30 day extension of the 60 day entry at an immigration office for a fee 1900 baht not at an embassy.

Dependent upon where you apply for the tourist visa you may need a confirmed ticket out of the country within 60 or 90 days. If needed a one way ticket to a nearby country would be accepted. You can buy one on a low cost carrier for about 1000 baht.

After the the total stay of about 90 days ends you could go to a nearby embassy or consulate and apply for another single entry tourist visa.

I am not aware of any hotels that have computers in their rooms. Most will have free WiFi in the room.

Some have computers in a business center you can use. You can also find internet cafes in many areas.

I would be very wary of using hotel or internet cafes physical computers to do any equities trading or banking. Not because this is Thailand.. I don't do it anywhere. Is there anyway you can buy a cheap laptop such as a Chromebook or low end Toshiba / Acer and log in to your hotels' wi-fi or wired networks? Seems much safer. Passwords to accounts are so easy to steal unless you are using https protocol.

If you do buy a computer to use here install Https Everywhere. Link:  https://www.eff.org/https-everywhere

thanks very much for the advice i appreciate that , cleared a few things up in regards to trading while overseas ,  i usually use a normal computer for trading because it has a larger screen and allows me to do some technical work , i cant really do this type of work on a smaller laptop screen as its too difficult . might have to reconsider trading whilst overseas . thanks

i am not really tech savy  - it is difficult to conduct research and study charts using a laptop and the process is quite restrictive and hard , usually at home i use a normal computer setup 15" standard screen which allows me to look at charts and do other things so i guess the only option is just to leave the trading alone whilst overseas as it is open to too many risks and if a situation does arise where passwords are stolen or certain accounts are compromised it would be a hard process to set things straight again thanks

ok so a laptop is not an option . does anyone know if there is a  business center in bangkok where I could possibly hire a computer that has stronger safety features .

trading from an internet cafe is risky

trading from a computer within a hotel room is risky

and unfortunately i dont have a laptop

any other suggestions would be appreciated thanks

If you use a computer that is not your own, with an Operating System (OS) with who knows what installed on it (possibly by a malicious previous user), it would be close to impossible (in my opinion) to be sure that no keyloggers, etc are present, which could capture your passwords.

The only option I would consider suggesting, would be to boot the rented-computer using a usb-stick with an OS on the stick - like "Tails" - which does not mount (access) the hard-disk of the computer it is on, and therefore does not store any information - even in a "swap file" or otherwise.

This way, everything you "run" on that computer is only stored in the RAM of the system, or to the USB stick (which you keep), so when you reboot, nothing is left behind.  That OS includes the web-browser, etc - nothing is loaded or stored on the computer upon which it is being run.

You can read more about this option here:

https://tails.boum.org/

... but note that security-holes have been found and patched in previous versions, so you would want to review and carefully consider whether this is "good enough" to be safe.  Also, as this OS was designed to allow people to connect from non-free countries, it also uses TOR as the default network-connection, which might be detected and blocked by whatever trading-house you connect to.  Using any computer with an IP which is not in your host-country could also result in your account being frozen (like Paypal often does, though there are workarounds).

Whether the place where you rent use of the computer would allow you to boot from your own USB stick - you would need to ask;  many computers in internet-centers meter/log/connect via tools installed into the host Operating System, making this solution incompatible with their network-access setup.

If you are concerned about risks using a computer then can you not just buy a 15" screen laptop, which is the same size as you use at home, then you can do whatever you need to do from a normal hotels wifi system

My advice would be to buy a second hand computer and 23" monitor when you arrive in Bangkok. You can get a functional setup for around US$150. If you can be bothered, resell it just before leaving for about $80-100.

A Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV) for 60 days (extrendable by 30 days) obtained at a Thai Embassy or Consulate is FREE until the end of February 2017.

AFAIK you do not need Proof Of Onward Travel (POOT) out of Thailand if you enter on an SETV only with 30 day Visa Exempt entries.

I wrote that it might be needed to apply for the tourist visa, I certainly did not say it was needed for entry with a visa.

My misunderstanding.
