Time calls Donald Trump ‘President of the Divided States of America’

NEW YORK: -- Time Magazine has named US President-elect Donald Trump as its Person of the Year.

It cited as reasons the businessman’s victory in the US presidential election and the upheaval in American politics this provoked.

“For 90 years Time has named the person who’s had the greatest effect on the world and the news for good or ill,” said Ben Goldberger, assistant managing editor at Time. “This year I think it is unquestionable that that is Donald Trump. Now the debate over whether that’s for good or ill is far, far less clear.”

The magazine published a short video about its choice, describing Trump as “President of the Divided States of America”.

The magazine noted Trump’s eclectic career as real estate magnate and reality television star before winning the US presidency.

“It’s a great honour, it means a lot,” Trump told NBC’s “Today” show shortly after the announcement.

It was a change of tone from 2013, when in criticising the magazine he predicted that Time would “soon be dead”.

The United States was divided long before Trump. The last administration deserves plenty of the blame. However, Time Magazine is never going to admit that.  Despite the facts, the MSM blame the Republicans as per usual.

Exactly.......Very divided the last 8 years

But the difference we saw was last time it was just as divided but...... in favor of the whiners.

None noticed because the majority of adults on the losing side accepted it & carried on knowing there was a train wreck ahead...

We then had front row seats to watch it...complain yes we did but still knowing it was their term so be it...use other checks & balances to try &

minimize the damages being caused

This time the whiners lost so every chance they get they utter silly phrases throw tantrums & have their media doing the same

The "populist" demagogue trump won, but he won DIRTY.

Now it's his job to unite Americans that he has so shamefully divided.

He isn't even trying.

Quote

Our campaign lost the election. But Trump’s team must own up to how he won.

If we are not to take Trump’s words literally, he needs to explain what he does mean. The Trump team likes to tell Clinton supporters “hashtag ‘he’s your president.’ ” But this isn’t a one-way street. If Trump expects the Americans who did not vote for him to accept him as president, he needs to show that he accepts all of them as Americans. He needs to show that he understands their concerns and hears their fears.

Trump didn't win dirty. He outsmarted the not so smart Clinton, and he won by the rules. He targeted electoral votes which is what it takes to win. Recounts, court pleadings - he's still the winner.

Isn't even trying? The guy is doing more before inauguration than any president I can remember. He's seeing a surge in popularity unmatched by anyone since Reagan. You may recall that both Clinton and Trump suffered from high unfavorability ratings before the election.

You might get your head out of TVF and read the news once in a while?

Spare us the dishonest liberal talking points. Trump is not the one who cheated during the debates and his own party did not conspire against his opponent.

If Trump never did another thing beyond his blowing up the Bush and Clinton political dynasties he should be recognized as Man of the Decade for the service he has done his country.

Dirty? You don't recall how Bernie got screwed? You don't recall how Hillary got debate questions against Trump in advance from CNN? You don't recall how the MSM let Hillary approve their articles before they published them?

The Democrats are always dirty. Hillary was the most corrupt person ever to run for POTUS.

Cheers.

Train wreck, huh? Eighty months of economic growth, and that's a train wreck? I do remember when the republicans were confidently predictng that if Obama were elected that the stock market would crash and that employers would only be hiring part time because of the ACA?  How did those predictions work out?

Proof that he won dirty?

I mean we have all the proof we need to say that Clinton is dirty but I want you to provide me some proof that shows, Trump won the presidency with dirty tricks.

And define dirty? Maybe in your books it is not dirty to rig your nomination and have a non aggression pact with your #1 opponent so he won't be able to sue/fight back.

Well, employers do hire part time workers more than full time

This is your proof of dirty tricks?  You set a very very low bar for proof.

Well if the e-mails sent by the people surrounding Clinton or Clinton herself is not a proof, what is ?

Trump won fair and square, but seems like Trump supporters here can't take any Trump bashing as well. Trump is dirty himself perhaps not in politics yet, but in his business dealings, but clearly Trump supporters here don't think so. Heck he is already profiting from the tax payers, from when secret service steps foot in his tower or on his private planes when they escort him or his family. This is just the beginning.

trump won't be flying on his private planes when he is president.....no security. And remember how he stated his 747 is bigger than AirForceOne......another of his lies, it is way smaller. And him being Times Person of the Year....I think Adolf Hitler got that dubious distinction from them back in the 1930's.......enough said.

Trump is that dull he thinks the naming of him in Times is a laudatory accolade. He doesn't get it.

The US is divided and Obama failed to deliver because from the get go the Republicans refused to act as responsible government and swore to oppose anything that Obama even suggested. Their conduct has been disgraceful and divisive and now they are in power they want 'all politicians to work together for the benefit of the country'! What a laugh. I hope the Dems filibuster as much as they can and do everything to bring Trump and his swamp monsters to the ignominious end they deserve.

What and Obama isn't? American could not be more DIVIDED under Obama. He was a complete let down to everyone including the African American.

Total hogwash! Obama was a mainstream centrist who allowed Wall Street to continue to prosper at the expense of Main Street, who allowed the neocons to continue their murderous ways for profit, and who nipped discussion in the bud of a rational national healthcare plan by adopting the Republican inspired ACA. The only divisive issue with Obama was that he was a Black man and that was unacceptable to about 30% of the White population including the majority of the Republican congressional members.

Trump is divisive because he represents an extreme ideological turn, extreme Hayek neoliberalism, that is at odds with the majority of the US population, which is why he lost the popular vote. Trump is unwilling to recognize, or perhaps he is incapable of seeing the divide, just as his supporters, most of whom are clueless about the underlying neoliberal nonsense that motivates this foul man.

I agree trumpists refuse to see the division their hero has wrought (particularly about his core base -- WHITE and seeing WHITE as RIGHT putting everyone else on the OUTSIDE), but as far as assigning a specific and fixed ideology to trump, I think that's ridiculous. His ideology is his cult of personality and that's very scary, considering what a bizarre clown he is.

His ideology changes pretty much daily. Now the entire world is at the mercy of his twisted chaotic temperament.

Saying he's unfit to be president is the understatement of the century.

God help us.

The Michigan judge who started the recount halted it, effectively sealing trumps legal win.

Get used to it and for heavens sake get used to it MADAME PRESIDENT and stop getting silly proxy's like Jill Stein to start your dirty work.

Trump's really starting to put your country back on the map. he might be different from all the other people in Washington run by special interests and he's doing to the press exactly what he said, so look forward to papers such as the useless New York Times and Washington Post to lose heavily. You are really lucky to have a president who is going to shake things up quickly, too bad some of the crawlers in Westminster can't do the same.

Americans like Trump. American's want Trump after all they voted for him. Get over this 'popular' vote it's not an issue, he won a constitutionally fair election under the rules put in place which no one has cried about before, so all you sobbers out there, get used to it he's your man for four years at least.....any betting on how many of Obama's executive orders he's going to overturn?

Lazy, complacent democrats couldn't be bothered to get out to vote and MADAME PRESIDENT with all her spent hundreds of millions, could force herself to visit salt of the earth, hard working poor counties.

Isn't it great how Trump thinks the price for Air Force 1 and 2 is way too much?

The Donald has not even been inaugurated. Yet he is accused of dividing the nation. You need look no further than Obama who has lost jobs and put so many ony on food stamps and welfare. Thats how socialist keep the voter base - dependants and immigrants.

For good or ill...I know which one I choose. His "not so hidden" messages of hate and spite will continue to divide America. He will enjoy the short blip of new President smell before the stench of his true nature comes wafting in. He can't help but be the bully and child wrapped up in himself. It shows through with each nasty tweet.
