Turmeric capsules instead of Prednisone cortisteroid

Being a chronic sufferer of an alergy related eczema, originating   from metal inserts in my leg after an accident,  I have been unable to find anything to replace the daily dose of Prednisone, the only medication that keeps at bay the infernal and energy stealing rashes and discomfort.

Desperate to find an alternative, ( The Doctor has warned me that she is reluctant to keep prescribing the  poison of  Prednisone and is already limiting the amount to the extent that there will be no stopping the symptons from taking over and making my life miserable)

So three days ago after reading a link on the curative effects of Turmeric I actually went to the local 7/11 where they sold the capsules  and started taking them as directed.

Now whether I am susceptible to a "Placebo effect" I am not sure but there is definately a reduction in the urge to itch and a feeling of having more energy.

I wonder if anyone has had any experiences with Turmeric as a medicine and could give me any other ideas on herbal medicines that would help my chronic condition?

I understand MODS that this post, maybe should go in the Medical forum but thought that, like I most posters dont tend to look there unless they  have a specific problem, so possibly you could allow it to remain her in the General forum for a few days .

Thanks

we want to be of course very careful with giving medication advise in this forum.

Having said that, Turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties and if it works for you, check with your doctor what she thinks about it. A friend of mine actually eats turmeric by the kg for that reason and buys it at makro in the spice department. Cheap as chips!

I've been taking turmeric (khamin chan in Thai) for close on 25 years. I can only go on anecdotal evidence for its efficacy, especially with prostate matters, but at 65 I have no internal organ issues (touch wood) -- yes, I have heart disease, but that is caused by years of dedicated smoking and drinking. An Indian doctor I saw regularly in Bkk over the years was a huge advocate of turmeric, and other Asian spices (capsaicin, for example).

Thanks for this post, I'm going to keep an eye on this thread.

Hopefully you won't mind me asking this: how many times per night do you get up to urinate?

How much do you take?

Just one tablet a day - but that has been every single day without missing a beat for many years, so I imagine the benefits would be cumulative over such a long time. You can take more, of course, but do your homework first, naturally.

Only in recent months have I begun to get up in the night to urinate, but it's only very sporadic, so I don't sense any issue there other than the rake's curse: old age.

Yes! The queen of spices. Curcuma (Turmeric), long time ago I use. Have a lot of benefits, antioxidant, antinflmatory, antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, and... ANTICANCER ACTIVITY.

I have noticed a lot of Turmeric health drinks on various sites.  It's popularity is picking up speed......I know the spice itself is cheap. How about in capsule form here? I guess you can always make your own as they sell plain gel caps at most pharmacies.

Why not eat raw turmeric ? .. I eat about 10g in the morning with black pepper (increases absorption by 2600x) ... I like it ... it's cheap at market and I grow some as well

Some evidence to suggest that fish oil may also be helpful in allergic/auto immune conditions.

As for the tumeric, if you feel it helps you. knock yourself out. You can get it in pill form in kiosks selling traditional thai medicine (found in malls and also in many Thai government hospitals), or big bags of it (food grade) at Makro.

It is also extremely easy to grow your own.

Thank you for all the input and info

Im currently taking 2 turmeric  capsules 4 times a day after meals.

I have been on this dosage now for the last 4 days and definitely feel some benefits.

I feel more energised, more power maybe becasue I am not being overcome by the constant debilitating itch that simply eats all my energy.

The rash is still apparent but does not itch as much, however If I so much as touch the rash even accidentally  it will immediately start to itch like heck so the Turmeric as yet isnt stopping all the symptons, maybe when I have been taking it a while it may stop this itch from hell

There is and has been mention of Black pepper to be taken along with Turmeric does anyone know what the quantity would be together with 2 Turmeric capsules?

Thanks for the  fish oil suggestion Sheryl I will include it in my herbal medicine, would this be cod liver oil capsules or any type of fish oil tablet?
