Pol Gen Srivara disagrees with searching Dhammakaya now

BANGKOK: -- The planned joint operation between the police and the Department of Special Investigation officials to search Wat Dhammakaya this week appears to have hit the snag as forensic police are not ready for the operation.

Asked by a reporter at a press conference about whether the search will be conducted this week or not, Pol Gen Srivara Rangseepromnakul, the deputy national police chief said that it would depend on the timing and the opportunity and on DSI chief Pol Col Paisit Wongmuang.

He disclosed that all parties concerned, including the police and the DSI, were ready for the search mission except forensic police. He said that if all except forensic police launched the search probe and forensic officials were not available to collect evidences, how could he explain to the court if another search warrant would be required and, this time, with forensic police joining the search.

The deputy national police chief insisted that even if the search was to be postponed, it would have no effect on the court case.

Meanwhile, it was reported that the court had issued a warrant for the search of the temple to look for Phra Dhammachayo as requested by the DSI.

Police abort raid on temple

Latest deadline ditched as police wait for special personnel in bid to arrest Phra Dhammachayo

BANGKOK: -- THE HIGH-PROFILE operation to arrest Phra Dhammachayo, the fugitive former abbot who has been ensconced in Dhammakaya Temple for months, has been aborted due to “lack of preparedness”, deputy national police chief Pol General Srivara Ransibrahamakul said yesterday.

Following a five-hour meeting to prepare for the raid that was scheduled for today, the latest deadline for the monk to surrender, Srivara said police still needed forensic science and technology personnel to ensure transparency if and when the case goes to court. The personnel would record evidence for the court in the event of resistance or obstruction during the raid.

Srivara declined to confirm if the operation would be conducted this week, saying it depended on the right timing. The court-issued search warrant authorising the raid is valid until December 16.

This whole thing is an utter travesty. The case just shows that the security authorities are sh*t scared of the Buddhist hierarchy that is rotten to the core. A little old man in Chiang Rai who gives a flower to a protester earlier this year was subjected to enormous pressure and threats. But a saffron robed crook has given the whole government the run around for months if not years.

The PM demands that we show respect to him and the whole security apparatus but fails to see that the shambling incompetence of his lily livered securocrats and their underlings in this case simply shows us that as long as you are a common person you will be treated to corruption and harsh treatment, but if you are in any structure that claims to be Buddhist or are an "elite" you will be treated with kid gloves or even exonerated.

Shame on you mister PM and your so called security apparatus.

Another weak excuse which simply amplifies the fact the authorities are prepared to say anything and do anything to avoid doing their job.

Are the seven companies of BIB and support units, other than forensic science of course, still on standby and if so for what, an operation that will never take place or is all the ' standby ' nonsense just more BS ?

It's a disgrace the deputy national police chief admits to a ' lack of preparedness ' but it's probably not an excuse just a statement of fact as why should they prepare for something they'll never be called on to carry out ?

What do these forensic units have to prepare, how many months do they need to find the car keys?  Not sure how they  operate in Thailand but forensic/crime scene units in Australia can hit the road at the drop of a hat.  They are always prepared with vehicles and equipment ready at all times to deal with what ever incident may arise.

I'd suggest that if it wasn't because of the current situation we'd be assured that this unit, like all others, is at peak readiness at all times and available at a moment's notice etc etc.

However another excuse is needed so ' lack of preparedness ' is trotted out without any thought as to how ridiculous and insulting it sounds but probably genuinely reflects what the BIB is all about.

Complete idiots. Of all the BS reasons they could have spun, they bring out this one. Quite why any forensic police are needed to execute an arrest mission is anybody's guess. How about go in and secure the suspect, then secure the area and send in any physical evidence gatherers / forensic personnel once the area is secured...
Running out of adjectives to label this now.. Way, way beyond farcical at this point

The Thai police exist as a

i) a state within a state (enriching themselves off the rest of the country)

ii) to manage organised crime, human trafficking, burglary rings, prostitution and drugs to an acceptable level and of course enrich themselves.

iii) to maintain the current entrenched power structure. This is done through wealth transfers to the police.

The Thai police do not exist to

i) do difficult jobs enforcing the law against powerful groups or powerful people.

ii) work for their salary only.

Too much money involved in this for any action to be taken by the inept/corrupt/lazy police.

Too many senior police  have already been paid off.

How on earth did this man ever get the rank of police general????

Every pathetic excuse they can come up with just to avoid going in, as going in would just prove what a crowd of corrupt individuals they are.

It would be best if the police were to just say nothing at all for a few weeks.  Every time they open their mouth they look silly.

Great situation isn't it as they paint themselves into an even smaller corner.

In traditional fashion they just have to speak out to make it seem as if they're on top of things etc and as soon as they open their mouths they shoot themselves in both feet !

This would never happen in a civilized country.

I wouldn't say that...the katholic church is also very rich and i have no idea if they paid tax for all their posessions. Also there have been huge scandals about pedophily there and nobody went to jail for it.

All the good things about Thailand are forgotten once I read something like this again and again......

Such pathetic, immature and downright childish behaviour isn't even laughable any longer. I'm thankful that I had some good years in TL, but even more thankful that I chose to move on to a different, not necessarily better, place where events like this don't happen all too regularly. The thousand smiles are more like grimaces nowadays.

All that said, one man's meat........

Thailand is the hub of the worst excuses in the world. From people out in the paddies to the very top their excuses never stand scrutiny. And when you take them up on the issue it is another pitiful excuse to cover the 1st.This country does not know how to cover it's arse.

At least they didn't put a deadline on it this time,so i would suggest this will fade away.
