" The department said they will be particularly looking out for foreign gangs preying on tourists. "  yes, they can't have those troublesome farang creaming off the bounty meant for Thai's......well maybe they could if they paid the brown envelop tax!

Immigration announce crack down on dishonest officers..... OOPS my mistake.

OH dear your next visa extension is going to be problematical !  !  !  !

m.c. helmets, easy and little effort, no one complains. This is a illegal activity and must be dealt with.

Never look down at the pier where Cruse Ship passengers are being "helped' by concerned citizens.

Ok crackdown on criminal activities , that would be good but then qualifying it that is a mistake but then as they say This Is Thailand.

This is a good move--a sort of protecting the tourists to gain more trust and confidence. Thanks!

Once you are here longer, you will understand that it is only talk. No action.

For a split second, here I was, thinking they might actually go after the TukTuk- mafia in Phuket, the Jet ski- scamers, the Taxi- mafia...

But then I woke up and remembered, where I am!

Definition of crackdown in Thailand:  a very brief event with few details primarily to get media attention for a brief period.

How about cracking down on tuk-tuk mafias, jet ski operators, gem scammers, etc, etc?  Nope, crackdown will be on the foreigners because . . . yippee!!!!  New Years money!!!!

How about giving us a little summary of recent offenses by the tuk-tuk mafias, jet ski operators, and gem scammers?

I hope they are not expecting us to work illegally (without WP etc) as informants for them, and note that using your line ID means they will know who you are, and you may get a visit that may have entirely unexpected consequences....Goodluck....

must admit I am rather confused, has immigration just turned into a police force, it would appear they are confused too about their area of responsibility

There have been complaints so they're after the "foreign" bad guys. It's always the foreigners' fault. But I guess they have a point for we all know no Thai would ever do bad things.

I wonder if this clamp-down will also target dual pricing, which must one be one of the biggest scams in Thailand? Probably not, given that it is sanctioned and practised by the government itself.

Talking about "crackdowns", is the crackdown on motorcycles riding on the pavement  from a couple of days ago still on?

No, I thought not, if it was ever on in the first place.

Posted

Oh dear, another crackdown.

I don't suppose this crackdown on these illegal activities would apply to Thai officials and Thais in general, preying on tourists?

Didn't think so.

I get a  laugh  when  I see the  term  Tea  Money!   That  says  a lot  especially  when  the  police

in Thailand,

get  less  than  10 thousand per year  US  money,  unless  they  are  quite  high  ranking.

Oh  but  I guess all  of   you  readers  already  know  this.  It  is  sort  of a big  reason  why

there  are  some members  who  try  to  make  a bit  more  than  they do.  I even  saw  this

kind  of practise  in Ottawa  in 1972,  as  the  city police  did  not  get  as much  money

as  the RCMP,  and as well living  next to Quebec,  and the so honest QPP, there

were lots of temptations  in those days.  Drugs  were easy to get,  and I attended  a few

parties at a constable's  house  where all the booze  and drugs  were free,  due  to  a

recent  bust  at  a mafia members  house  and lots of wonderful  things  were  sort of

relocated  before  the squad arrived to cart  some away to the local station

Geezer

If you don't like to read them all, go to the last line. :sorry:

2. No Go-Go Bars.

3. No Ping-Pong Shows.

4. No Soi-Cowboy, Nana Plaza & Walking street.

5. No Soapy massage.

.

999. No more tourists coming to this country.

if not having those activities makes you reconsider coming to Thailand, don't let the door hit you on your way out.

Yes, like motorbikes riding on the pavements.

Glad to see that no Thai gangs are preying on tourists. I guess they do not exist. Ah times are good.

If the police are really serious about cracking down on illegal activities perpetrated by foreigners, then why don`t they set up a hotline whereas people can anonymously report them?

The news report covers the Immigration Police Department.   All those things above have nothing to do with what they do.

Their specific mission and jurisdiction is investigating foreigners.

Next please.

A good  place to look at for making a '' crackdown '' may be the double dipping (or more) that the RTP are involved in, while being paid for working full time as policemen.  Every business that I know of which operates outside the law is owned by a policeman or a family member or makes a payment to the bib so as they do not hassel him/her.  I understand a few are paid quite well to be advisors to major businesses which conduct legal business, for some reason.

Maybe this is just to make sure the farang will never reach the point of understanding how to be successful in business here.

The usual over reaction and diversion, how about pick pocket gangs from Vietnam and Philippines and a few from China now. Maybe it will have an affect maybe not police doing what the police do here
