BANGKOK: -- THE MINISTRY of Digital Economy and Society has met with the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission to discuss how to deal with the expiration of the country’s reservation of two satellite orbits at the end of this year.

Wilailuck Chulewatanakul, the MDE’s permanent-secretary, reportedly rushed to discuss the issue of what to do with slots 51 degrees east and 142 degrees east with the watchdog after learning that the reservation of the two orbital slots will expire at the end of December. Wilailuck could not be reached for a comment.

An NBTC source said that the ministry was concerned that if it failed to retain the reservation, it might face criticism for failing to protect the national interest.

Why rush? There's still a full two weeks to sort it out!

You have to factor in the weekend.  They have far less time than you think.

How long have they known this decision would need to be made so how long have they been sitting on it and doing nothing ?

Another " It'll Be Alright On The Night ' moment ?

If the MDE can get together with the DSI, I'm sure they can come up with an appropriate solution (for everyone) for one of those slots !!!

Even little things in Thailand these days are a crisis.

That's quite true. And most of them are self-inflicted, like this one.

Interesting dilemna.

Back in December 2014 the government and NBTC suggested that the NBTC had no right to auction its orbital slots. (news source cannot be cited as per TV rules). Now two years later they discover they have a deadline?

Face criticism or just plain lose face. Protect the national interest what a far reaching much encompassing catch all phrase.

What not give it a shot.

Like most people on Thai Visa, we enjoy reading the jokes.

Don't know why it is against the rules to try to make people laugh, a little bit ?

Just don't attack members. ( I learned that lesson ).

PS, I got your joke anyway.

Cheers
