I think it is put about to test the waters as they say. Like the uk government do before offical. Why not after 5 one year renewals then you can get a 10 year visa for 10000 baht. Thats ok i would do that. But this flaming 90 day reporting is crazy. My thai wife does not have to do that in uk or usa where she has 10 visas

After 5 years my wife got uk citizenship as did her daughter. The 90 day reporting defies any rationale but probably rarely fatal unlike the equally unnecessary visa runs some are obliged to do.

Nobody yet because they still are not available. No new info since they were announced.

I did a 90 day report at CW last week and asked could I do the 10 year visa , they said not available yet maybe later. Still have 3 weeks before I have to do my extension of stay (retirement ) so will check again a few days before. Probably will only be able to do the 1 year.

Surely asking at immigration about a visa that even when issued, will come from outside Thailand is not likely to be productive.

So far there has been no mention that anything would change to annual extensions of stay. Totally different situation.

Nor really correct since immigration is the only place to get a PE visa from a Thai Elite membership. Issued on arrival at Suv or at Chaeng Wattana immigration.

Agree with the 2nd line of your post.

I always wondered who actually issued the Elite.. Like if it was a division at the airport same as do VoA's or where..

Is there any indication tho that this 10 year visa will be a CW issue ?? Perhaps because of the verification of the 3 mil inbound.

I am hoping they are working out the details. I also hope they will offer the required $10,000 insurance policy through immigration somehow.

G/day mate I discussed this subject with you a few weeks ago I was planning on retiring end of 2016 I am Married to Thai National & my daughter goes to the International school Chonburi area,

You advised I should get Tourist visa however due to I was tied up in West Papua & only arrived in Jakarta on the 21st Dec I did not have time, I arrived here in Thailand on the 22nd Dec & got 30 days Visa on arrival, Can I change this Tourist Visa for non O Multiple Marriage Visa if I go to the Thai Consulate at Savannakhet before the Tourist Visa expires on the 21st Jan 2017

Or should I return to Jakarta Indonesia on the 21st Jan 2017  & apply for Tourist Visa as I have return Ticket,

Please advise   Thank you,

This is my take on the 10 yr from what I have seen

It will be an extension to the O-A visa issued abroad.

I suspect the reference to "medical tourists" as a potential market was a misexplaining/misunderstanding/msitranslation of the need for medical insurance to qualify.

From that I deduce the Thai's are looking to solve the undesirable element staying here via criminal record checks in own country for O-A issue, increasing the financial standing* (and thus spend)  of those staying here, reduce the risk of retirees becoming a healthcare financial burden via insurance stipulation. Viola, there you have it, the new retirement visa. My guess is that they will grandfather those on current extension of stay but likely issue no new ones. That's my best guess.

With my condo banning AirBnb I can suddenly see how few people are living in it LT/full time (50+ or working) - it was occupied before Airbnb but with people who could do back to back visa runs/Non  B/O etc etc - they have left it seems, and ST airbnb lets took up the slack so you couldn't see the decimation. That is why i never bought despite having enough in my current account at times to buy the condo I rent outright - never sure if I could stay (age 50 changed that slightly) and thinking maybe that would affect rentals unless I bought a CBD 3 bedroom Expat attractive apartment - even then an actual sale might be protracted. The point here is that business and professional class Thai Chinese make money/their pensions from condo rental - if it affects that there may be push-back on restricting farang long stay from the Thai side.

Comments welcome (insults/vitriiol from those in a permanent bad mood coz stuck in an Isaan village 'till the end of their day, not. You know who you are)

* Original retirement extension was 1979? i.e. when there were a lot of Vietnam war era built apartments standing empty and the assumption that a retiree would likely employ a driver, cook, housekeeper, gardener etc. We are not providing that level of benefit to the Thai economy that was originally envisaged.

I think I suggested you get a single entry non-o visa not a tourist visa so that you could apply for an extension of stay based upon marriage at immigration.

You could could apply for a multiple entry non-o visa in Savannakhet or you could get single entry non-o visa an apply for an extension at immigration.

If you can show 400k baht in a Thai bank in your name only you could apply for a 90 day non immigrant visa entry at immigration based upon qualify for an extension of stay based upon marriage.

You could get a single entry non-o visa in Jakarta if you chose to go there.

Hubby and I just returned from a trip to Malaysia where we investigated the Malaysia My Second Home 10 year retirement visa program.  Thailand has many, many details they have to work out for their proposed 10 year retirement visa scheme to be on-par with the MM2H program.  The initial report of the Thai proposal doesn't say anything about buying or importing a car tax free, owning a home (and land) outright in your own name and being able to work or volunteer without a work permit.  All nice features of the MM2H program.
