My IO refused my 12 month extension and Fine Payment because I was 16 days overstayed!

Can I do a Laos run at Nong Khai, get a 30 day VE, convert this at my IO to a 90 day Non Imm O visa by way of Marraige, I have all the neccessary Documentation from my previous application?

Best to go to the embassy in Vientiane and get a single entry non-o visa based upon marriage.

Where are you located. Only a few immigration can do the conversion to a non immigrant visa based upon qualifying for an extension based upon marriage.

Go to Savanakhet and get a one-year multi-entry O based on marriage. No proof of financials required or wife to show up; just the original wedding certificate and signed copies of the Thai spouses ID card and Blue house book. And the visa fee of course.

But, I'm wondering why you were not able to renew on time?

It is such an important event!

On entry to Thailand in November, the IO didn't give me a 90 day report date so I may struggle to keep that one, but not the renewal, it's burned into my brain.

Just nosey I suppose, but do tell LOL

I agree with UJ and elviajero.

Obtain a new Imm O SE 90 day Visa from Vientiane, then during the last 30 days of that Visa apply for a new extension of stay from Udon Immigration office.

You are by the way, not extending your Visa. A Visa cannot be extended.

You are extending your permission to stay in Thailand. A single entry Visa is dead the minute you enter Thailand.

Elviajero, thank you kindly! May I just confirm that I pay my Overstay on exit at MK, no problem, will be 43 days?
Go to SK Consulate, and can obtain 1yr ME O Visa by reason of Marraige, is this correct?
Thanks

You wrote in your OP that you had 16 days of overstay when you tried to apply for the extension. So you have waited almost 30 days to do anything about it.

You will pay a overstay fine of 20k baht for 43 days of overstay. You should not have a problem at Mukdahan when you leave the country but they could turn you away and tell you to fly out to take care of it.

If you can still qualify for the extension you only need a single entry non-o visa to apply for one.

You can get a multiple entry non-o visa in Savannakhet.

the abbreviations are hard to follow SK, MK, you can pay 20,000 baht overstay fine on exit, ( unless you get picked up on the way)

you were 16 days overstay, but now 43 days.

I want the visa you originally mentioned to me, 1 yr by way of Marraige?

That is not a Visa, it is a 1 year extension of stay based on marriage and obtained from your local Immigration office.

You need a Non O type Visa first from which to do the extension.

You can obtain a 1 year ME Non Imm O Visa from a Thai Embassy/ Consulate based on marriage to a Thai.

You cannot make 90 day reports with this Visa, you must leave and re-enter Thailand every 90 days

The advice was to obtain a single entry Non Imm O Visa from Vientiane, then during the last 30 days of that Visa apply for an extension based on marriage at your local Immigration office.

Alternatively if Savannakhet is easier, you could obtain a Non Imm O ME Visa based on marriage to a Thai.

During the last 30 days of any of the 90 day period of stay you can apply for your extension.

The considerations are cost and convenience to ponder.

You attempted to apply fro a one year extension of stay at immigration. If you want to apply for that you only need a single entry non-o visa that will allow a one 90 day entry that you  can extend for one year.

You can get the single entry non-o in Vientiane. The crossing at Nong Khai is better for clearing an overstay than Mukdahan.

Can I exit and re-enter without entering

You have to enter Laos by getting a visa on arrival before returning to Thailand.

You will only get a 30 day visa exempt entry if your do that. Also after just clearing an overstay they could deny entry. Best to go to the embassy consular section and apply for a single entry non-o visa.

After exitting, must I enter Laos or can I re-enter straight away?

You must enter and exit Laos before re-entering Thailand. If you don't have a Laos exit stamp in your passport you won't be allowed entry to Thailand.

Don't be surprised if refused Visa-Exempt entry after your overstay.  If I were you, I would follow the advise of those here who suggest you get a Non-O.

I would add, that if it were me, I would high-tail it to the airport, pay the fine there, and exit by air.  Much less likely to be stopped at a checkpoint on the way to the airport, which could prove disastrous.  Overstay is not a small matter, anymore.

It will be accepted at immigration for 6 months from the date it was issued.
