Easier appeals for convicted politicians under new rules

POLITICIANS CONVICTED by the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Political Office Holders will be able to appeal court verdicts more easily after a new constitution is implemented, a senior judicial official said yesterday.

 

Cases now being tried in the court will come under the new rules if verdicts are given after the new charter takes effect, said Athikom Intuputi, secretary-general of the Office of the Judiciary.

 

These would include cases stemming from the previous government’s rice pledging scheme against former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra and some of her Cabinet members. A court verdict in a case in which Yingluck is accused of negligence is expected to be made around the middle of the year.

Interesting that they include the Yingluck trial in the article. Is this new law just for her? Your guilty, I appeal, your guilty again, out the political arena you go Yingluck. In record time. Ahhh, now we can get on with the fair elections.

I await with bated breath the first example to be brought forward. Could be a disclaimer to bring budding politicians out of the woodwork. Seems to me that in extreme circumstances (to be determined by you know who) it could be fatal for ones health.
