AlQaholic
Uhhmmm....it is not cold in Thailand, in fact it is rather warm which makes wearing clothes quiet unnecessary. It was not until WWII or so that Thai people started to wear clothes on the upper part of their bodies, but still today I often see Thais walk around in public almost naked. I say off with the clothes and <deleted> these western standards of decency......

It is generally thought that other news is more important than what numbnuts are doing on vacation. Until Thailand realizes this fact, tourist numbers will continue to drop - my bet is it is too much fun too stop and thai culture gets too much milage on finding disrespect to put the brakes on it. Agree with you in broad terms, but there are two areas where we differ. The first is when people break the law it becomes news and the second is that the tourist numbers if they are dropping is due to the zero dollar tours being outlawed and not news articles like this. bitcoinforever
you see Pai was original a nice laid back hippie town, then the Thai's discovered it and made it into a thai resort town . no girl bar mostly chinese and thai tourist. they chase the hippies out with widespread drug inpections and spot piss test. so all the hippies ran for cover, cambodia, laos, vietnam so this means they are going to have to start up their anti drug program again
Oishii
It's got nothing to do with the fact that then sex industry exist, or that you can buy drugs, or any other illegal activity. The fact is, if you visit a foriegn country, you abide by the laws of that land. Visit an Arab country and you'll be locked up for kissing, oven a little peck on the cheek. So, we know that generally, publicly, the Thai people are prudes. Unless you're at a beach, you dress conservatively, or risk upsetting the locals. Also, Buck naked is an American term. Butt naked is proper English.
LannaGuy
Just because he's a 'westerner' why does it let 'western side down'? thais are like 12 year olds with their 'hurting hearts' over the smallest thing. Of course it's impolite and a sign or better still catch them and just say 'please don't do it' is enough not all this drama

Rubbish. How many times have posters like you claimed that tourists will stop coming to Thailand and yet they come year after year in increasing numbers? No, tourists won't stop coming to Thailand because Thailand is tolerant of their stupidity.

Boatfreak
50 years ago it was the opposite (female) western tourists were outraged by Thai women bathing naked and doing traditional dances with naked breasts, in those days the temples were not a problem. As Professor Chalidaporn explains, up until the early twentieth century many women wrapped their breasts with a piece of cotton cloth, leaving their shoulders bare. Or in the case of areas like what is today northern Thailand, some women did not even cover their breasts, but instead simple hung a scarf around their necks. TerrylSky
Well, I suppose all these disgraceful farang could pack up their bags and take their "disgraceful" economic stimulus with them and go to Koh Pangan or elsewhere. I admit it may be rather tasteless and inconsiderate , but hey, it's Pai. Pai thrives on these sometimes tasteless, inconsiderate hippies. It's always interesting how Thai's can dish out lessons in morality. Maybe he's jealous. Nevertheless, I side with the the Thai whom I don't know. Certainly a little respect would be appropriate for any foreign visitor.

ikke
Not even 50 years ago Thai ladies didn't wear bra's and would be breast naked at all times , even the Thai cultural shows where like that, and this prick talks about bikini's ..... its 2017 guy's, grow up ! IMA_FARANG
Go to Copenhagen in the summer. There is a park area right in the niddle of the city. Many young and good looking Danish women sun bathing topless on the grass. A few males too. Most not totally nude, either sex. A lot of office workers around in the buildings like to enjoy their lunch in the sunny park.
TerrylSky
And it is true as reported by a reply above, there are hilltribe people in THAILAND that have been here for ages breasts a swayin' as they bath in rivers and walk around in the sun - my housekeeper included. What's the big deal... especially in Pai. Again, I love the double standards, hypocrisy, and arrogance in this country sometimes.

timewilltell
At least he is not defacating in the river as has been a problem before. Kind of crazy that Thais who used to run around with their breasts on show until not long ago (and still do at Songkran and around a pole in some places) have such contempt for the human body - it's not like you HAVE to look. puukao
Drug test them all immediately!!! In fact, drug test all hippies before they try to leave. Scare them into not coming back after some time in jail and a 100000000000 baht fine, which their parents will pay since their kids are doing drugs abroad. Who cares if the numbers of tourists drop if it's THESE KINDS OF TOURISTS who stop coming!!!! Oh, let's see.... we can have 1000000 druggies or 100 rich people who spend 1 zillion baht and don't walk around naked.

Yes, lets see which genuinely benefits the economy more, 100 massive spenders who give it all to one already massively rich resort owner, or 1 million casual drug users who share their spending out between hundreds of average income Thais. Yes i heard that too, trekking means renting a motocy without driverslicense right? And on the way to the mountains you buy some harddrugs from a local. That's what backpackers like to do when far from home and mummy can't see them.
