By PETCHANET PRATRUANGKRAI

BANGKOK: -- AMERICANS will keep investing in Asean, despite President Donald Trump’s policy to encourage them to invest in their home country to |stimulate domestic employment, Commerce Minister Apiradi Tantra-porn said yesterday.

“The US has some limitations such as high cost of labour and limited supply chains in many industries such as clothing, footwear and electronics. So Americans will continue investing and will expand their businesses in Thailand and the Asean region,” she said.

After discussions with some US companies during the recent meeting of the World Economic Forum |in Davos, Switzerland, she said US multinationals had insisted they would maintain a presence in Thailand and Asean.

Bet she has heard a few jokes cracked over that surname  . . . :shock1:

Only by farangs who have no idea how to pronounce it.

When it is spoken the r in her last name is silent  so instead of Tantra-porn it is pronounced Tantra-pon.

If he gets his way and those products are hit with heavy import taxes if they arrive in America even if made in a factory abroad financed by American money will that make a difference?

Just add 35% to all these cheap labor

products if you want to sell them

in the USA.

Probably that's the lowest ol' DJT is thinking about.

Still has to be seen what will happen though it's only his second day.

There you have it in a nutshell. Throw in a difference in pollution law controls as well. Yes jobs will return to the USA as Trump touts $15 an hour or less few benefits. This will be the new middle class previously the lower class and the lower class will be on government handouts. It will not take long like raindrops falling for the middle class to go one class down. To give the lower class jobs all the immigrants would have to be deported and the lower class given lessons on pool cleaning. Yes the jobs will return to America.

He's probably thinking on the lines of tax the goods so they end up costing the same being made in USA.

Not sure where that would take things.

According to the blurb he scared Ford into closing down the construction of a plant in Mexico and investing money in the states instead.

Maybe he wasn't even the reason for that, I don't know.

Can't imagine how he can enforce the 'throw all the illegals out'

Maybe a hard stare and they will all run away.
