Zyxel
“The Thai Navy requires the submarines to maintain military balance in the region because other neighbouring countries already have them. " This is a perfectly sensible and correct thing to say. If you want peace , prepare for war and don't let potential future enemies getting more powerful than you. Adding 3 subs to the Thai navy which has none at the moment is not a stupid idea. And about the argument that the golf of Thailand waters are too shallow, these subs will be used in deep international waters against enemies warships in case of conflict and for other missions like stealth renaissance, disrupting enemy shipping etc.

maewang99
the Gulf of Thailand is all some posters can think of? think of people, demographics. it's like the Thai media talking as if the Philippines and Indonesia didn't hardly even exist when it comes to anything about ASEAN or the South China Sea.... when you think of Thailand.... think of the ****Bay**** of ****Bengal****... first, and then the Gulf of Thailand. because it's always about people... and no matter what the political nonsense du jour is.... and unlike politicians.... the military, everywhere in this world, is ****not**** in denial about Climate Change and what it already means scenario planning wise. it's real obvious. having options and capabilities is very important. Perhaps the Thais looked south but bought from the Chinese.. Perhaps under the table transactions are easier to pull off with the Chinese?
