The other day I went shopping in Sridonchai road. After 30 minutes I came back to the car to drive back home. Started the car, put into gear and drove off, well that was the plan. Problem was that car went like gloink and that is never a good sign. Luckily I hit the brake in a sec.

Got out to see what the reason was for my car to go gloink.

I seemed to have parked in a no parking area. But instead of those ugly yellow contraptions that are used in other parts of the world to lock your wheel the BIB used a small chain.

Facts:

Yellow contraptions will be seen and will prevent you from driving off.

Metallic small chains will not be seen and will do f.cking damage to your car.

Since I drove off slowly and could react quickly the damage was a bend plate that protects the brake.

I was tempted to try to break the chain by driving a bit further but was too much of a pussy. A ripped brake pipe would really have made my day. Anyway, a friendly shopkeeper pointed out that there was a small piece of paper under my wiper (which I had also not noticed, stupid me) and that I had to pay the fine at Mae Ping police station. Jumped in a tuktuk and found out that they are demolishing the station. Jumped in the tuktuk again and off to Wat Phra Singh station. It was about 5 o’clock so city traffic was nice and slow. Paid the fine, back to Sridonchai, waited for the police to take off the chain. Started laughing because not much else you can do. One of the reasons why I started laughing was that the friendly shopkeeper who had directed me to the wrong station said when I came back: Oooops sorry, you not go to Mae Ping but go to Wat Phra Singh. Yeah, I know.

It was a beautiful sunny afternoon in Thailand. Much to complain about or much to enjoy. Choose the latter but beware of the BIB and their strange ways.

Cheers

Wow that is a small chain, the BIB must have been very busy collecting money and run out of the yellow ones, that's probably what he secures his bicycle with

Carry bolt cutters.

Not good advice if you are suggesting they be used to remove the small chain!

Use them and you will not be paying anything like 'T' *oney!

Read the little note the BIB 'hide' under your wiper blade.  I use the word hide deliberately!

I have seen what happens when people do use the above mentioned implement. These small chains have been in use for years-before the 'yellow boot' came into use.

But I still like the first post.

Chiang Mai is different

Big yellow clamp and the note at the wiper in Khon Kaen.

(not to me but from observation)

And be surprised when you want to do your yearly tax/insurance payment

Will be refused until fine (and probably some surcharge) will be paid.

Damaging the chain might give you extra attention.

That's my point

Don't you understand the 'subtle' comments I am making.

This is a public forum!

Big 'Yellow Boots' and 'little chains' and what large yellow sticker obscures your windscreen or some small notice is placed very neatly under a wiper blade makes a big difference to the outcome(s)-especially your response and actions.

Get it!

Don't cut or damage the chains , or ignore the wee 'notice' !

I am really impressed with your calm (mai pen rai style) response/post.
Most TV members would have had a rant etc.
Well done for the post/observations.

Hello ScottieJohn,

Mai pen rai is not really my middle name but it was around 5 in the afternoon. I think Chiang Mai is at the most beautiful at that time, not sure why.

Tomorrow I'm off to Europe for a week where weather sucks and things are expensive. Glad to be living here.

Cheers
