A look at the suitcase with a 10,000 wait list

THIS is the suitcase said to be so brilliant, 10,000 people are waiting to their hands on it, including A-listers such as Oprah Winfrey, Jessica Alba and Gigi Hadid.

But with so many basic bags on the market that adequately carry your travel belongings, what could possibly be so desirable about this piece of luggage?

For starters, this carry-on suitcase, made by travel-goods company Raden, is seriously tricked-out with hi-tech gadgetry.

Dubbed the A22 Carry, the 3.8kg bag features a battery to charge mobile devices and a companion app that tells users how much the packed bag weighs, the New York Post reports.

The app also features information on current weather conditions, traffic alerts and deals on flights.

And built-in Bluetooth technology lets owners know the location of the case when it’s out of sight.

As for the built-in battery: it’s removable and can charge a phone as many as four times, with two charging ports on the outside of the bag for easy access.

The bag was launched 10 months ago and has sold more than 20,000 units.

Now, a waiting list has swelled to more than 10,000 people because production is still catching up with demand, company officials tell The Post.

“It’s hard to forecast demand,” Raden CEO Josh Udashkin said. About the barrage of orders, he added: “We’re extremely humbled.”

A huge part of the interest in the suitcase is due to its celebrity fans. British makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury reportedly ordered 40 of the bags for her team, while NBA player Draymond Green purchased one of the bags (in black gloss finish) for each of his Golden State Warriors teammates.

The A22, as well as its larger, equally equipped A28 sister model, comes in 10 colours, including gold, bronze, light purple and navy — some with an option of gloss or matte finishes.

The most popular option at the moment appears to be the light-pink gloss finish.

The Makrolon polycarbonate exterior is crack-resistant, while wheels give 360-degree maneuverability.

Prices for the A22 begin at $US295 ($A387), while the A28 starts at $US395 ($A518). The

Great, a battery operated suitcase. Maybe the perfect recipe for cargo hold fires ?  I was not even allowed to have a spare li-ion small laptop battery in my checked in suitcase.

Neat trick,  IMHO, I would like to know exactly how the bag weighs itself ?

A suitcase is just a suitcase. I have a set of Travelpro softsided luggage. That set is now more than twelve years old and all are still are fine. This Raden company must have a super advertisement company. Charge my phone in a suitcase? Why? I have a small CoolMaster battery that will charge my phone twice and it will fit in my pocket. The Travelpro suitcases have more compartments and zippers than I ever use. They also have a plastic built in bag that I can put wet clothes in like a bathing suit. Nothing else gets wet. They have a lifetime guarantee. The rubber band tires had a problem and were replaced with no questions. One handle failed and they sent me a replacement and a spare which I still have. The rubber band wheels on the most used suitcase have rotted off again but the suitcase rolls just fine on the plastic rims. I see no need to replace them.

Bag weight? I have a small digital scale with a hook on it. It goes up to 40 KG and is handy to weigh nearly anything. Weather forecast? My phone works well for that. Pay $300 or $400 for a suitcase, never.

The weight sensor is in the handle, so you have to lift the bag.

The NY Post article does not contain much additional info.

(used a popular method to read it)

But I guess the manufacturers website should be readable:

A bag that tells me the weather report.

What's next? Tootbrush with news ticker?

The world is a madhouse and some patients have too much money.

Thanks for the info, if you have to lift the bag to weigh it I'll save a couple of hundred bucks and use a digital scale for $20 disigned to weigh a suitcase

The website says:

Integrated scale

Ergonomic top carry handle doubles as a weight sensor

Although not described, how else than lifting can work?

And I think it would not be possible to get a correct value from a sensor at one of the wheels e.g.

To be honest: the weight feature is the only that would interest me  A useful addition compared to the unrelated internet of things stuff (could my bag be hacked :cheesy:).

I would pay a whopping 5 Dollars extra for the weight feature.
