Chiang Mai to Phan

Featured Replies

I'm planning a ride from Chiang Mai to Chiang Khong, trying to stay on the 'backroads' as much as possible.

First leg looks like 118 to Mae Katchan, then going east on 120 to Wang Nua (or Wang Nuea)

There's a road going north there, shows #1303 on my new Golden Triangle map, viaMichelen shows it as Thanon Kuhn Wang.

At Wang Kaeo, veers east to Wang Charoen (4059) and then north to Mae Hit and through Ngaw Tao.

Joins with 3186 just before Ban Pang Ko Sai, and a few K past Ngaw Tao connects with 2109 that goes east tp Phan, on hwy 1.

Anyone know about those roads, roadwork etc. and any suggestions? Solo trip, riding a nearly new Honda SH150 i

Thanks,

DS

Just go and enjoy the adventure. Detours will be highlights.

I suggested you ride a CRF as my map shows an unpaved section north of the 4059, north of Wang Kaew. Double check over at the GT-Rider website and get the GT-Rider map of the area. I have never heard of anyone heading north at Wang Nua on the 120 to get anywhere, but new paved roads are always being built, so maybe there is now such an option.
