Despite of protest, the National Energy Policy Committee (NEPC) yesterday endorsed today the long delayed coal-fired power plant project in Krabi province for the sake of power stability in the future.

The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha following two-year delay.

Prime Minister Gen Prayut said the meeting resolved to go ahead with the coal-fired power plant construction in Krabi despite of protest.

He said the project was delayed for two years to allow relevant government agencies to conduct studies and to listen to oil ions of local residents.

He said that according to the studies, the southern region’s electricity demand has increased constantly, higher than other regions.

EXACTLY- there is NO SUCH THING AS CLEAN COAL- and NO country that does not PRODUCE coal has any reason to ever use it...

they have been using every trick in the book to force this upon us here in Krabi province for nearly 3 years- among the tricks are paid agitators (at the 2nd public demonstration, at Nuea Klong, which drew 10,000+ anti-coal residents, we were stopped from speaking by men who punched and kicked us and threw chairs-  this made national news), paid-off voters, fake pro-coal petitions claiming more supporters than really exists- you name it, they've tried it-

now PM using Section 44 to arrest/detain the protesters at Government House in Bkk on Friday and Saturday...

i have attended virtually ever protest in Krabi the last 3 years,

and WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED, WE DO NOT WANT COAL IN KRABI !!!

COULD BE MUCH WORSE!!!

The dangers of a Nuclear plant supplied by GE  (like in Fukashima) would be far greater and with long lasting consequences (50 years plus).

It is poetic justice that the huge nuclear fallout from Japan is now threatening the West Coast of the USA>
