What is a good government hospital for gastric bypass

Featured Replies

I've done just about every diet imaginable.

Some of them actually work. I went on a low carb diet paired with Xenical  a few years back that saw me shed significant weight in only a few months.  I could even buy clothes locally again at one point. But I just can't stay on that diet for any length of time. That plate of Krapao moo just looks too enticing. 6 years later I've not only regained all the weight, I am now pushing past obese and into the morbidly obese category.

I talked to a friend in the states who had excellent success with gastric bypass. He says that dumping syndrome, in his case at least, really did cure him of any desire to consume carbohydrates in any significant amount, and that when additionally combined with something like Xenical and protein supplements I would have a good chance of keeping the weight off. It has worked for him anyway.

I am seriously considering giving it a go, but I have to be honest. The 300,000 - 400,000 quotes I see from places like Bumrungrad mean it will never happen. There is absolutely no way I can pay that much. I mean, I owe it to my family to lose this weight, but I have to be realistic. So the question becomes,  if I want to get laproscopic gastric bypass surgery at a government hospital, where should I go, and what kind of a price tag should I expect? I am located in northern Bangkok.

Does anyone have a suggestion on where this can be done cost effectively?

Thanks for any advice

Chulalongkhorn Hosp

Some of the surgeons there with experience in the procedure:

Dr. Pakkavuth Chanswangphuvana

Soravith Vijitpornkul

You can see them directly on appointment basis through the after hours clinic 13th floor main OPD building

Why not have the grapao moo with some lettuce and cucumbers, instead of rice?

Is there a recommended Dr for gastric bypass or gastric sleeve surgery here in Bkk that people have experience with.

I've got a friend who is obese and starting to look for a qualified surgeon. Money isn't an issue but a good experienced surgeon is

Dr. Suthep Udomsawaengsup is one of the most experienced surgeons for this in Thailand. he is on faculty at Chula, and also at Bangkok,  Bumrungrad and  Bangpakok 9 Hospitals.

He did a fellowship in bariatric surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in the US.
