THE mother of a missing Russian tourist has arrived in the resort island of Koh Tao, while DNA results on items that were believed to belong to the woman have proved negative.

Despite launching a full-scale land and sea search for Valentina Novozhyonova, authorities have so far failed to find the 23-year-old tourist, who checked into a hotel on Koh Tao on February 11 and went missing four days later.

The search team found five pieces of what was thought to be human flesh and bone at the location where she is thought to have gone snorkelling. A green vest and snorkelling goggles were also discovered about 400 metres from the Ao Chalok Ban Kao beach resort where she was staying.

All of the evidence was sent for DNA tests at the Institute of Forensic Science of the Royal Thai Police. However, the results showed the flesh was not human and a DNA sample from the cloth did not match the missing woman.

Following the results, police plan to hold a meeting to discuss the next steps in the search. They are also waiting to question a friend of the woman who has promised to return from the Philippines to meet them next week.

back to square one.

horrible ordeal for the family.

I would conduct that interview via Skype.

I think I would ask the Russian Embassy for help to have those pieces of flesh and bone independently tested outside of Thailand........ just saying.

Thai police on Koh Tao and from Surat will only work for the powerful families on Koh Tao. If the Russian family want any sort of credible investigation, they would need to hire their own investigators.

Have they introduced the mother to the fortune tellers yet....? I wonder what she feels about that fiasco......

The reputation of this Island needs no explaining. Look for recently excavated land plots.

FBI do it all the time. Nothing to lose when you hit a brick wall

Dunno if I would want the Russians handling it either.

And, now it was not sure to be an accident anyway! Think it´s better to not rush with the news to the media.

That's a really good idea.....someone give the man who proposed that a cookie. :coffee1:

I can't really see them going much further with this case. Nobody seems to have seen her or anything else and searching the Ocean for her is like looking for a needle in a Hay Stack.

Just got to hope now she shows up, or to put closing on this case, her body washes up to shore.
