ICT asked to block webcam chat-room site, Camfrog

BANGKOK: -- The Culture Ministry Monday sought the blocking of an overseas-based website allegedly showing lewd acts and being abused by users in this country.

The ministry reported the site to the Information and Communications Technology Ministry and police.

The site is called Camfrog and has been accessible for three years.

A network of Internet cafe operators brought the site to the attention of the Culture Watch Centre.

Some users is this country are allegedly posting and viewing lewd material on the site.

Ministry permanent secretary Weera Rojphojjanarat said Monday it would seek police and ICT Ministry help having the site blocked. It wants an investigation into possible offences.

The showing of a lewd act in public carries a maximum punishment of three years in jail and/or a Bt3,000 fine, he said.

Not even close to a porn website, I just checked it out (as ofcourse one does if you hear it is going to be banned).

Though I am not for any cencorship, I don't care that much if they block porn sites, but when it is legitimate sites that on occasion might have objectionable material, that is pathetic. Next to be banned the computer, as it could be used for imoral behavoir.

ICT thinking that banning one site will stop lewd Thai behavious online is like saying that an umbrella will stop it from raining.

Someone should tell these guys about Google.

Actually the Camfrog website itself is not being blocked but the Camfrog application channels. And yes a fair amount of porn can be accessed through Camfrog channels - only heard that to be true by a Thai friend.

Are they still blocking websites? I thought that all that nonsense had stopped - I haven't seen the green screen for months...

That's what I wanted it for, literally. Trying to setup a video/audio chat facility for our research lab and stumbled upon CamFrog, just when they started blocking it. Will now have to look elsewhere, the one TV uses is ideal but a bit too expensive for a lab. If anyone has suggestions let me know. Prefer it to be a local server/client configuration and not require an external authenticator.

I have had a wee look at this place.Most of it seems very harmless etc.Many chat rooms for deaf people so that they can sign etc.(never thought about it before,but deaf people can vid chat the same language to anybody in the world that can sign.Great for them etc)

There are ca few restricted rooms,where it seems that a few ladies may or may not get their kit off for the camera.(This does involve alot of searching though....)There also may or may not be a 9/10 lass called Crazy_Natt or may or may not get nud_e every now and then and dance around for the camera.Disgusting behavior if you ask me.She's probably back on at 10-32PM tonight.....
