I want to get a colonoscopy done, i live in the Surin area. My normal hospital in Surin is Ruampaet but they are only just starting to do this,ie. they don't even have the equipment necessary. Can anyone suggest a hospital, the government hospital in Surin perhaps or Korat, Buriram etc?

Government hospital in Korat is pretty good, it is a regional level facility. Crowded, though, with long waits. There is also 2  good military hospitals in Korat  - Fort Suranari (army) and Royal Thai Air Force Wing 1.

For that matter there is an army hospital in Surin (Fort Wirawatyothin Hospital) though I haven't heard any feedback on it.

Is this being done as just a check up or is there a specific issue? Because if the latter then selection of the doctor becomes quite important and I would then suggest Khon Kaen Univ Hosp (Srinigraind).

Thanks to both you Sheryl and Sinbin for your input. 13 years ago i had a colonoscopy done in Germany, the doctor removed a lot of polyps one of which in the lab was shown to be on the threshold of turning cancerous, in fact he was so concerned that he asked me to come back for a second colonoscopy to make sure he had removed everything. He said that i had a propensity for getting polyps and i should get one done every three years. Three years later i got one done in Chiang Mai which showed no polyps, the doctor there recommended not every three years but every five years, that was ten years ago, so i thought it time to get one done again.

Sorry I should have wrote 'Hospital' at the end of Suranaree University of Technology.  They have a very good Gastroenterologist who speaks excellent English.

From your history, it will be important to have a good GI specialist do this. Sinbin's suggestion sounds worth pursuing.

Thanks for that, will do. Any idea of the costs ? i am insured but you have to pay up front, in Chiang Mai 10 years ago it cost 17,000 Baht so it is probably more now. As i shall be at the hospital anyway i may as well get a PSA test done as well.

It should be much less than 17,000 as this is a government hospital.

Well that was a shock, my wife just rang them up, they want 34,000 Baht and a nights overstay which wasn't necessary either in Germany or Chiang Mai. I am thinking now of trying the Government hospital in Surin, how bad can they be.

Overstay is indeed not necessary. sounds like they have gotten, shall we say, entrepreneurial.

Govt hospital in Surin will be quite crowded, if it were me I'd try theArmy hospital first.

Indeed that University does not seem to be subject to normal civil service staffing and rules from a quick read - and indeed that price is sky high (unless it includes polyps removal and testings) - I posted below in January for my wifes exam at Bangkok Hospital here in Bangkok which is normally among the higher priced facilities.

In September my wife had at a top private hospital, Bangkok Hospital in Bangkok, and total price was 26,453 - package price for procedure was 19k and anesthetist fee 4k - other for medications and tests.  This was with nothing found/removed.

I have just found a web site for surin hospital that especialy deals with colonoscopy, it's in Thai, i was able to read it,it looks impressive, for Thais over 50 it is FREE. I will ring them up tomorrow, Should i get it done there i will let you know about my experience in a private post so that you can increase your already considerable knowledge on hospitals here.

Chulalongkorn, top Govt hospital with its specialising dept about 9000 batt with biopsies as well, was there in january, rated by me as 5 star I have had 4/5 over the last year, also painless

It is worth the traveling, cancer was missed in my case on this being done outside BKK
