Concrete Vibrator or Poker

Anyone have for sale or rent, or know where I can buy a concrete vibrator?

The hose needs to be about 3 m long.

I'm having a look in Global at Mukdahan today, but any info. is appreciated.

Thaiwatsadu in Buriram had a selection three years ago. I bought a cheap one for ‎฿1500.-  OK for small jobs. I didn't really look at the more expensive ones but mine has the vibrating unit actually in the poker, 240 volts, so you don't need a long hose.

I have often wondered about the fact that the familiar whine of the concrete vibrators is something I have never heard in Thailand, although obviously somebody buys them. Do they really build everything using the wet concrete + hammer method? My son in law refuses to use mine, prefers to slop plenty of water into the mixture.

Yes they certainly use a lot of water, they can only do one thing at a time eg either a floor or a wall

I hope the OP is doing the job himself because the locals wont use it like when i mentioned it for my little pool

Oh yes they brought a little one with them & used it for 5 minutes the put it on the ground

Without training (five minutes) a concrete vibrator isn't much use. Basically, it's push it in quickly, take it out slowly, stop just as water comes to the surface.... (sex rears its ugly head...).

What;s that supposed to mean? Maybe you are in Bangkok but I have witnessed the building of several shopping centres, cinema complexes and the like over the years and even while concrete was actually being delivered (and lifted up to the fourth floor in some cases using buckets and a human chain) I never saw or heard vibrators being used. And I actually started to actively look and listen for the sound.

No I am not in Bangkok.

I was wondering how someone could possibly "often" think about such mundane subjects.

Well, they thought they had one, but they didn't, so ended up at Global house, and got a 5m length plus off-centred electric drill for around B 4000. No air in my CPAC........hopefully. [emoji38]

Ex-civil engineers often wonder about stuff like this. They also often wonder about mundane stuff like buildings falling down, lack of quality control, safety measures. Boring I know.

I was Google searching and came across pictures of poured structural beams (done in Thailand on a house construction) with visable space throughout the beam where air pockets had formed during the pour.
I haven't seen them used in Thailand, but they must, as nearly all the large hardware shops had many varieties of electric or petrol types.

I used CPAC for the pool slab with the understanding that I could use their vibrator and pay also for an operator. The operator didn't come, so I did the vibrating basically as you said. You are right, the Thai workers weren't very interested in it.

Last time I poured a slab, about 6 years ago we could rent one from CPAC, in Ban Dung. The first concrete truck brought it with him.

Saved having to buy one for a one time use.

In a pinch , if you dont have a vibrator, you can vibrate the form by using a sawzall. Simply take the blade off , place the shoe of the blade holder against the form, and turn it on. You be surprised how well it works.

These two Hyundai Tools female models told me in April 2017 they work as a duo with vibrators in Buriram.  I did see several black long concrete vibrators on sale including the inexpensive Clinton Brand of electric Vibrator at this builders merchant shop in Isaan. Makasa Concrete Vibrators are made in Japan and truly seemed a better design and build quality for use with ready mix concrete deliveries. The German designed Bergin concrete Vibrators come in several lengths. Articulated concrete pumper trucks are available in every province in Thailand if you ask at the more progressive Concrete suppliers.

This morning on Highway 226 a few KM past the Buriram Global House and Buriram IQ House I stopped and spoke with a bi-lingual English Home Builder named Andy supervising a house footings ready mixed concrete pour. He told me every 30 minutes a concrete lorry would arrive and he was making use of a rented concrete articulated crane pumper truck and using Makasa concrete vibrators. He did not have the Hyundai Power Tools female duo helping hold the vibrator.

I'll have to enquire about a concrete pump from the bigger supplier in KUCHINARI. Haven't seen one, but they could have one.
I've been looking more and more at bond beams and foundations or strengtheming beams, and the more I look, the more I can see air holes in the pour.
Only yesterday I was picking up some steel, and noticed the reinforced beams that the crane ran along all showed some sign that air bubbles were in the concrete pour. Scary.

Hi rice555.

I used one of those little hand held ones on the slab, and not really impressed after I used the one I bought for the walls. With the little ones, there is not much slump when vibrating, but with the one I bought there was a huge slump.

Also I need a length greater than 2 m, and they didn't have them in the hand held.

There is also a problem with the vibrators, in that you have to know how to use them. One of the CPAC truck guys was feeding the cement too fast, and another guy used the vibrator right down the bottom of the wall, and the wall blew out. Thankfully it was where the steps are, so no problems, but there is a technique.
