She's now 10, GSD, and a couple of years ago we found after x ray that at some time in the past she had cracked the, I'll call it the spur that keeps the ball of the joint in place.

The x ray showed it has healed at slightly the wrong angle and was causing a bit of joint pain. Painkillers and supplements seemed to fix it but now it's obviously starting to hurt again.

She still has the happy expression and non stop waggy tail, just the obvious stiff walk after lying down for a while so she's back on the same medication from this morning.

Question is, does anyone know of a good dog joint painkiller that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

No, but if you find one let me know.  I had my hip replaced 5 years ago and it has been acting up recently and all that I can get from the Doc is paracetamol!

I find 20 year old single malt quite effective but not sure if it would be good for my dog.
