Ocean Conditions...

Featured Replies

hi,

i came up from koh phangan to bangkok last sunday on the lompraya... what a nightmarish trip that was!!!!

i'd like to head back tomorrow. can anyone tell me how big the waves are? it's really hard to get a straight answer from the ferry companies....

thanx,

d

Seems calmer today, but we had people come last night and said it was still rough. I recommend the larger ferries which dock in Surat as the catamaran will be heading straight into the wind as it heads north.

And yes, the ferries are running to Don Sak.

Here is the forecast.

And here are the wave conditions.

Thanks to monty for the link.

thanx for the answers and links...

hmmm, don't know what to do now... the wave simulation looks calm, the forecast looks bad (Thailand and the Gulf still intensifies during 23-25 December 2006. High wave with 2-4 meters is likely in the Gulf)...

I hear ya. I have done that trip about this time last year. Vowed never to do it again.

The indication is the sea's will be about 1 meter or less by sunday. You will be ok to travel

Doubt it, and even if the breakers are 1m or less there will still be a heavy swell for a few days.

that why i fly. simple really. saving a few thousand baht is really not worth a the samui chumpon run.

anyways, i crossed from samui to kpg on the 18th and it was quite nasty.

my friends arrived on th 20th it was better.

now i am sitting at sunset cove having coffee and contemplating a swim. The sea is alot better after the tide shifted.

i think the worst is past, and by new yars it will be btter, just like it is every year.

Tend to agree with ts. The weather is noticeably calmer, the swell is still there but greatly reduced and certainly not dangerous to travel. Only problem you will encounter is if you suffer seasickness.
