Mobi Posted May 6, 2017 Posted May 6, 2017 I have 5 gmail accounts and 1 hotmail account and have been using Thunderbird email server for many years (15+) without any problems. Today when I tried to receive or send emails from any of my gmail accounts in Thunderbird I got the message that the server was timed out. So now I cannot send or receive from any of my gmail accounts via Thunderbird. The Hotmail account still works fine. I have the latest version of Thunderbird (it updated today, but the problems started before the update.) I rebooted, restarted Thunderbird – still the same. I uninstalled and re-installed Thunderbird– still the same. I Googled – but there is sketchy info on this problem and none of it is current. In desperation, I turned to M/S Outlook and tried to add my Gmail accounts to Outlook. (I should add that I use Outlook app on my mobile phone and it still works fine for all my emails) Every time I tried to add a gmail account I received the message that it failed and I should check if IMAP on the gmail account was enabled. I opened the stand alone gmail accounts on my desktop via the internet and checked the settings and IMAP was enabled. I disabled/enabled, checked the recommended port numbers etc. and tried again, still won't work. So I tried to add it to Outlook with POP server. I enabled POP, adjusted the settings on Outlook to POP and tried again. Same thing – I was told that POP wasn't enabled – but it is.... So the gmail accounts won't work in Thunderbird and won't work in Outlook. I have never tinkered with any settings, they have just stopped working /won't install on two separate client servers. Can anyone throw any light on this – it is driving me round the bend… if I'm not already round it… Or can you recommend a new client server that is guaranteed to work…? Thanks Mobi P.S. I can't imagine how it can be relevant, but someone in the USA tried to open several of my Gmail accounts today, who apparently had the passwords, but were blocked by Google. (They detected suspicious activity as I am in Thailand).I have now changed all the passwords. Doesn't make any difference on Thunderbird or Outlook, they still won't work for my gmails.
ukrules Posted May 6, 2017 Posted May 6, 2017 Google are having problems in Thailand today, most people seem to have issues with gmail webmail. From what I've seen it appears to be some kind of routing issue which results in timeouts, perhaps it's the same thing.
KhunBENQ Posted May 6, 2017 Posted May 6, 2017 Mobi: I bet you are a 3BB user. Sorry to read that you waisted so much time finding the problem. The main thread on the "3BB Google disaster" (or whatever is behind) is here: Wait until the dust has settled and try again. This thread closed. If you are convinced it's a different/specific problem then use the "Report post" button in my post and ask to reopen.
