I have a friend who already got a non B from his actual school and would like to go to another one, does he need a letter of cancellation of visa from his present school? My understanding was that you only need a letter of cancellation if it is an extension of stay based on work. He didn't  apply yet to a work permit. Any experience on that issue? If he leaves now the school will be pissed off so he's not going to get paid for the first two weeks and will not get any paper. So what best advise can you give him? 

He should be able to get a work permit and work with his current 90 day non-b entry.

Some embassies and consulates though put a note on non-b visas stating the school that supported the application for the visa. This can cause problem using the visa at a different school.

He doesn't want to use this non b. He plan to leave Thailand to Laos. Get a tourist visa or another non b from his future school. So does he need a letter of cancellation from his current non b?

Only if he's on an extension should he need a cancellation letter.

Since he has a 90 entry from a non-b visa it cannot be canceled. Only an extension of stay granted by immigration can be canceled.
