Whatever next?! Monk watching sex movie on full volume filmed on tour bus

Thai netizens were wondering what the nation's monks were going to get up to next after one of their number was filmed watching a porno movie on full volume on a tour bus.

The video ended up on Facebook with onliners shaking their heads at what has become of Thai society.

Daily News online caught up with the poster of the clip, 19 year old Wittawat Wonghajuk who told them that he was taking a bus from Loei to Udon Thani when he heard the sound of the movie, clearly people having sex.

He thought it was a teenager watching it and made his way to say something.

But when he saw who was watching he thought better of it.

It was a monk aged about 30 - who seemed oblivious to his fellow passengers as he gawked at the movie.

Wittawat was worried that the monk might get angry - he had seen the results of monk violence recently - so he decided to film instead.

Now he hopes someone will recognize the monk who got off (the bus) before the poster alighted in Nong Bualamphu.

Ironically in worst case scenarios, the monk would be transferred to another temple, and the person who filmed this will be charged and witch hunted with defamation charges by the responsible authorities..... wanna bet?

Let’s call her P. She was a volunteer here going on 40 years ago. Back then being a volunteer was a two-and-a-half-year commitment and you needed a skill. She was a med tech, now a doctor, working at an upcountry health clinic. As part of her job, yes, she treated a number of monks for venereal disease acquired at the local brothel. That is just how it was back in those “good old days”

Has It changed now? Not at all,  except for the technology. What has changed is how the past is remembered. Just like in the west, the appeal of an idealized version of the past is wildly popular among some segments of society.

Not true at all. If he was simply a man wearing an orange robe, then someone would have let him know what he was doing was inappropriate for a public place. But as it was, the people were afraid to do anything at all and had to suffer the arrogance of this enlightened chap.

It surpises me that Thais see monks misbehaving almost on daily basis (in real-life as well as online) but they still insist on getting a monk over for a new house or at a wedding to do some chanting. And they still donate at the temple. Don't they see the problems with buddhism and monks in Thailand or they just don't care?

 

Last week at Paragon we saw a group of monks at Starbucks, all drinking a large coffee in the middle of the day...

Most Thai people believe "their Monks" are beyond reproach. It is only Monks from other temples that misbehave.

Drinking coffee.

 

Strolling around the shopping centers being advised by young female clerks about the latest Apple devices.

(BTW I miss the detail what device this fun loving monk used).

Coming over to the village shop in the afternoon buying cigarettes.

 

Temples are full of broken homeless men, dry(?) alcoholics.

The closest temple is now building the third pagoda.

They have a Fortuner, van and limousine.

The abbot is driven almost daily in the Fortuner which is washed/mopped daily.

AC library with tinted windows and other AC rooms.

Three satellite dishes.

Besided the usual strays they have a couple of toy pedigree dogs.

 

And that is in the midst of an Isan village, not in a Bangkok hiso district.

 

Monkhood is another fragile pillar of this society.

Many don't care about what the monks do.  They get them for the new house / business or wedding as a good luck charm and as tradition.. keeping up with the neighbours. 

 

Monks in my area regularly drive around in the temple brand new pick up truck.. wearing their full robes.  I have seen monks in the local coffee shops and restaurants eating food in the afternoons, and buying food from local shops. The temple in the village has monks partying, listening to loud base music many afternoons... when they should be meditating.  They are too lazy to walk out to collect alms, and so order the villagers to bring them food and money over the loudspeakers instead.  Other monks are shipped around the villages in an expensive car and let out up the road to collect offerings.. then driven to the next village, as so on, as to maximize what they get.

 

I have seen them in the city, buying vibrating massage chairs from shopping centers, buying more expensive mobile phones that I could ever afford, all handling wads of cash (they are not supposed to even touch money).   I lost all respect for most of them now.  I used to think it was a beautiful and respectful religion, but here in Thailand it has become a joke... with the main concern being gathering more and more wealth, and also power over the general population.
