PM addresses concerns for national security with reassurance

BANGKOK, 31 May 2017 (NNT) – The Prime Minister has affirmed that no evidence indicating Islamic State (IS) presence in the southern region has been found and that all security agencies are working to their utmost to immunize the Kingdom from foreign threats.

In a message to members of the press, Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha assured that no evidence has been found to support claims that the IS group has conducted any activity in Thailand, confirming however that if such information were found the government would inform the public.

He asked the media to work hand in hand with the government and not expand on controversial issues that could undermine national security. He pointed out all security units have been instructed to work towards ending violence and conflict in the nation and to safeguard it from any and all outside threats.

The PM highlighted that peace talks in the southern region have already begun to bear fruit in the form of safe zones and that with greater trust in the future, better collaboration between the state and those opposed to it can be achieved.

On human trafficking involving Thai victims, the PM said the cyclical nature of the crime requires a concerted and overarching solution that deals with both the supply and demand for smuggled humans.

Finally, the PM responded to queries on a reform council report suggesting the disbanding of the some state enterprise boards and the cancellation of some concessions by saying that the issues are being studied.

I thought it was only yesterday he told the media to rack off. Is this now a suck up?

The PM maintaining his exclusive right (issued under Article 44) to flip-flop on just about every decision he makes including dates of elections.

"... no evidence has been found to support claims that the IS group has conducted any activity in Thailand, .."

Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. Or however that saying goes.

Why am I not reassured upon reading they are "working to their utmost"?

Immunization, that often involves a little prick.

That's peace talks with MARA Patani that did not represent the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN), the one long-standing separatist movement that today controls virtually all militants on the ground. As a result BRN has increased violence in such zones. This fruit is sour grapes at best.

The trouble with this Prayut theory is that he doesn't full understand the problem, it is intertwined, you can't have Islamic terrorists  and not be in some  sort of cosy bed together, they support each other whether they are vocal or not , there is still understanding. ........................................:coffee1:

Deposing a elected government is controversial.  Then not being effective while not being transparent is again controversial.  He is linking press coverage with national security.  Don't see how they are even slightly related.
