Farewell Pattaya

Unfortunately the night scene is a joke for anyone been in Pattaya. Loi Kroh Rd- a sad almost dead version of a Pattaya barbeer area. I went into the boxing ring complex and many barbeers were shuttered, and hardly any bars had customers.

The road itself has a few barbeers, but with few customers, and many massage places also very quiet.

But . . . but this sounds like Chiang Mai is in a DEATH SPIRAL like Pattaya with a critical shortage of Golden Egg Layers.

When's The Chiang Mai Pavements Rant, or had that better go into the Chiang Mai forum?

I see you are also posting on the C M forum. I guess I'd better be prepared for more of your little "quips" about whatever I write.

BTW, C M is hardly in a death spiral, but the night scene is pretty dead in comparison to Pattaya.

Pavements are much like in Pattaya, a bit rubbish, if there are any.

Nope, plenty of offers around , and the best of them all is Deli Diner opposite Tukcom

99 baht for this British breakfast , with 2 toasts, bacon, sausages, eggs, beans, tomato, fried potato. Coffee and juice included.

99-baht.jpg

Having said that , I also prefer to cook at home , but this breakfast at Deli Diner is real value for money, coffee is good too.

Let's face it , Chiang Mai can't compete at all , yes they do have some good restaurants if you don't care about your budget .

There is no way he is making money selling that breakfast for 99THB.

Hmmmm. I don't consider 200 baht to be "cheap". Cheap is a 35 baht instant meal from 7 11.

However, I liked Pitini's full English at around 150 as a treat.

I am talking about western dishes as cheap , I'm sure you understand that ,

150-200 baht for a western dish prepared in a kitchen where they know how to cook is rare in Thailand.

Have you tried many? I have found several that do a really nice western meal for under 200.

Depends what one wants I suppose. If it's a popular meal it would be easy to find, but something unusual not so much.

I assume that you are not including Pizza Hut, and Sizzler etc.

I recall many years on this forum espousing the virtues of life in Chiang Mai, only to be ridiculed by the Pattaya set. Too quiet and too boring they said, no bars they cried, few girls they yelled, I'd never visit there let alone live there they screamed....now, many years later Chiang Mai has grown up and has much to offer, many many of the old naysayers are now firmly in residence here, far too funny.

I walked down Loi Kroh Rd this evening about dusk. Seems half the shops/ bars/ whatever are closed. Only about 2 massage places open where I went. It was like a post apocalyptic movie for lack of life.

Pattaya may be quiet, but this was almost dead in comparison. Perhaps all the tourists were in their rooms preparing for a shopping trip to the night market.

Just as well I didn't come up here for the night life.

Correct. It's certainly not like Bangkok or Pattaya ... but it is a lovely chilled place with great shopping and eating, as well as amazing countryside.

But be careful down that road ... one of the bars serves "meat and two veg" ... if you get my meaning! :shock1:

That's not western is it ? Ok maybe it is but it tastes so so .

Scandinavian, German , British, Italian and French cuisine  can be found all over Pattaya/Jomtien/Naklua. Not in Bangkok or Chiang Mai.  That's the advantage of living in a tourist area with a good mix of people.

Your observations and report were excellent.

We all need a reset from time to tim; especially for the new arrivals.

When the negative thoughts overpower the positive thoughts about any country, go back to your home country and chances are you will want to leave within a week; especially if you are a senior, if not sooner, and when you get back you will appreciate what you left a lot more.

As a senior I agree but it can work both ways; I found on a recent trip back home things, to my mind, had improved in some ways there so although I'm not going back for good, my plan is to go back for two or three months every year now.

You must have been disgusted with murder rates doubling in many areas, violent, bloody protests, TSA nonsense, feeling invisible by the opposite sex or same sex, and public, political and financial fear of currency devaluations. Along with stock market, currency retreats and the future threat of Marshall Law and border shutdowns that are happening in many countries now. How was the weather?  Any flooding, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, range fires, tornados, and hail. Did any militarized Police drag you off the plane or pull you over while driving?  Did a nurse offer you a free flu shot? Then there is the threat of N. Korea  nuking you or eventually radiating you.

Watching the reality show news there must have been entertaining.

If any big event/s happens in the world, (World War, Worldwide Financial collapses),most borders will shut down and you will stay where you are when it happens.

Currently, countries under seige have had civilian airlines cancel all flights in and out.

Chiang Mai is the <deleted> of Thailand. There are some pretty nice provinces a hundred miles to the south of Chiang Mai like Khampeng Phet, Lopburi etc in Centrail Thailand, but Chiang Mai is a shithole exacerbated by the tourist boom in recent years.

Pattaya is and will remain the best city in Thailand.

Either cook your own, go Thai or go vegetarian. You can make your own rice meal with pickled condiments and vegetables for under 10 baht..... Eat fruit for breakfast and lunch. Thailand has some of the best fruit in the world and fruit is nature's perfect food for humans, full vitamins, minerals, enzymes that nourishes pro-biotics in the digestive tract, anti-oxidants, full of energy providing carbs and glucose. It requires no cooking and is ready to eat in it's raw form. When you eat 1 orange instead eat 5 of them, 1 banana eat 3. It might seem weird at first but very soon your body will start craving the good stuff and will no longer desire that putrid, rancid, cancer causing piece of meat. Eat as much fruit as you like and desire, fructose is simply converted to energy, it is impossible to get fat off of fruit.

The Thais have been eating nothing but rice, fruit and  vegetables for 1,000 years, only recently have they had a large amount of meat available ( and it is still expensive). Thais are pretty slender and energetic people.

This is completely off topic so we can't discuss it in this thread. You may start a new topic preferably over in the Health forum. I'll throw in this one reply but it may be deleted, esp if you reply to it here.

Snack, rather, with rice providing useless carbs unless you're starving.

But not berries, which would be the go-to fruit. Fresh berries are quite expensive, so that leaves frozen, and even the frozen blueberries ain't cheap. I go for frozen strawberries mostly.

No. You a fruitarian?

and fructose. Now it's time to view Sugar: The Bitter Truth.

very soon your body will start craving the good stuff . . . . Eat as much fruit as you like and desire, fructose is simply converted to energy, it is impossible to get fat off of fruit.

Will start craving more sweet stuff and carbs in general. Fruit can--and probably will--given the typical diet & lack of exercise--contribute to metabolic syndrome and obesity. Do consider the glycemic load when choosing fruit:

https://adrenalfatiguesolution.com/fruits-lowest-glycemic-load/

Found this in my notes: the high carbohydrate content of some fruits can make them raise your blood sugar levels quite rapidly. For example, a large banana has 31 grams of carbohydrates and a mango has 50 grams of carbohydrates. Many large fruits, such as apples and pears, can easily provide between 30 and 36 grams of carbohydrates, which turns into the equivalent of 7 to 9 teaspoons of sugar.

It's all a lot more complicated than that. "Are" or just "were" and "look?" . . . comparisons between the weight of Americans / Europeans and Asians using BMI is misleading, it exaggerates the difference. Asians are often “skinny fat” or even get diabetes at BMI levels that are considered normal for Caucasians (e.g BMI 24).

Is that the bar with the good looking ones ?

Unfortunately not. Often the katoeys look better than the real thing, but haven't seen that up in the north.
