Hi,

does anyone know which slot would be the best to install the M.2 NVME drive in the Asus Maximus ix motherboard - (It will eventually be the boot drive)

Asus provides 2 slots, one is under some covers and the other is an upright 90 angled slot.

From what I can gather from the manual the slots seem to be slightly different.

Slot one is M.2.1 - PCIe 3.0 x 4 and SATA mode M Key Design type 2242/2260/2280/22110

Slot 2 is M.2.2 - PCIe 3.0 x 4 and SATA mode M Key Design type 2242/2260/2280

(all of this means nothing to me!) Just want the fastest slot for the drive - Samsung EVO 960 - 256GB.

Then the limitations -

Using the M.2-1 slot disables SATA Slot one in SATA Mode.

Using M.2.2 x2 and x4 - will disable SATA 6G_56 disabled??????

So, if any of this makes any sense to anyone out there, where would you plug in your drives?

Western Digital Black 2.0 TB Mechanical Drive Sata 6.0GBS

Seagate Barracuda 2.0 TB Mechanical Drive SATA 6.0GBS

INTEL 480GB SSD

and finally the M.2 Samsung Evo drive?

As usual, any help for an old codger long in the tooth will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Thanks for that! Answers just about everything. The only issue now is regarding the disabling of certain SATA ports.

Cheers for those links.
