BANGKOK: -- The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Thailand has launched the “#isupportSDGs” campaign to celebrate “World Environment Day” and create awareness of sustainable development goals (SDGs) among Thai people.

The campaign, which started on June 5, was supported by more than 28 celebrities on social media.

Martin Hart-Hansen, Deputy Resident Representative, UNDP in Thailand said: “To achieve the sustainable development goals in Thailand by 2030, it is not a duty of one person but a duty of everybody in the country. Having famous people to support the campaign indicates that they want to see Thailand moving forward to achieve the goal.”

He hoped the campaign would create awareness among Thai people and help accelerate progress in achieving the 17 SDGs in Thailand.

The campaign is a set of 17 global goals, spearheaded by the UN through a process involving 190 countries worldwide, that could transform the world by 2030.

Khun Bright, a reporter from Rueng Laow Chao Nee, said, “I’m delighted to be one of the SDGs supporters. The world and the people need the development and this can’t be a duty of one country. We all need to collaborate and work together.”

She invited everybody to be part of the SDGs by adding a frame to their profile photos on Facebook, #isupportSDGs.

Khun Stamp, another celebrity, said that it was an honour to join this campaign. “I’m glad that I can be one of the supporters to create a better world through sustainable development.”

UNDP has more than 50 years of experience leading the UN’s development work, providing knowledge, practical expertise, and a legacy of trust. UNDP works in nearly 170 countries and territories, is helping to eradicate poverty in a way which also reduces inequality and exclusion, and avoids wrecking ecosystems.

Khun Wannasingh said that he supported the goals because he produced a documentary and this gives him an opportunity to travel and live in a conflict area which makes him feel more related to the goal.

Khun Taya Rogers said: “I’m very happy to support #isupportSDGs campaign by UNDP because it’s my dream to work with United Nations to help others since I was young. All the goals are very important. If we collaborate and work together I believe the goals can be achieved by 2030.”

Organisers urge everybody to support the #isupportSDGs campaign by adding the frame to their Facebook profile photo. Choose the goal that they wish to support and add the frame to the profile picture #isupportSDGs #UNDPThailand
