Muslim man arrested after AK-47 found in kitchen well in Narathiwat
By The Nation

NARATHIWAT: -- Police and troops arrested a Muslim man after an AK-47 assault rifle was found hidden in his house in Narathiwat’s Ragnae district early on Friday.

However, authorities did not charge him with being an insurgent although the rifle had been used five times in terror attacks in Ragnae.

Abdulloh Lateh, 53, faced a charge of having illegal firearms in his possession after authorities checked his background and found that he did not have a record of being involved in insurgency activities in the deep South.

Police and rangers went to Abdulloh’s house in Moo 6 village in Tambon Marue Botok at 3am.

Initially, he would not allow the authorities to go inside his house and authorities spent 10 minutes persuading him to open his door.

Authorities found only a cartridge of ammunition for an Ak-47 rifle before they found the gun in a well in the kitchen. Authorities used a magnetic tied to a rope to recover the gun from the well.

Abdulloh said the gun belonged to his friend.

When authorities imagine that they are so adept at the game, and have everybody involved on record, it can only end in tears.

IMO, proper terrorists/insurgents do not get caught until after the atrocity has been committed.

Whoever made that statement needs dragging across the coals.

Army/Police didn't just decide on a whim to visit this guy's house at 0300.   It also might not be a coincidence they had a magnet handy to fish the weapon out of the well hole.

Mr. Lateh might be more useful walking around, rather than in a jail cell.

So despite the AK being used 5 times in terror attacks he was no arrested. Mmmn seems logical.

I wonder how they figured out that AK had been used 5 times in terror attacks. After a shoot up, do they return weapons to insurgents? One Ak looks similar to another, unless carved "bambi" or something into gun stock.

These animals need to be hunted down and put down.  No mercy ... I'd be doing surprise house-to-house in highly suspect areas . . .

I think they are saying they run ballistic tests on recovered used rounds after an incident and have matched these to this weapon.

How do they know its the same AK ?

Super fast ballistics tests completed in hours  ? I don`t think so .

I`m sure there are a few million of them in the hands of insurgents around the globe at any one time .  . If the authorities think there is only 1 AK in that hood they are fooling themselves .

A muslim that have an automatic rifle? What a surprise! I thought all of them were pacifists.

Monkeys

Lucky they did not find  a bullet-proof vest as otherwise he really would have been in trouble.  An AK47 used 5 times in terror attacks.......................no problem!

I`ll pose the question again . There are millions of AK 47s around the world . How did they confirm its the same one used for terror attacks ??  The serial number ?? lol .

Could also be he kept the gun for his "friend" because not keeping it for his friend could lead to harm for his family or him. He may be an active Participant or a sympathiser. We have no way of knowing. Assumptions prove nothing. If he was an active suspect the Police given the level of insurgency would have moved against him. As to the gun having been used 5 times that would be speculation ballistics prove a lot but as said since 120 million Kalashnikov type rifles have been made in 7.63X39 You would have to have the most accurate ballistics testing in the world. or did they know this from the 1 round found?
