Hello guys,

My D-Link router was recently replaced by this new Humax model (Humax HV100-02) which gives me headaches. I've seen some posts of yours telling about Torrent problems that I could experience as well. However, I have to say it is a little bit different. Actually, I can use bittorent only in the morning with a downloading rate that increased by 2 compared with the precious router (from 1mbps to 2 mbps) but it prevents me from having a normal websurfing activity on the other side. I wouldn't say http is completetly blocked but it is definitly much more difficult. Surprisingly, incoming TV stream is not affected by bittorent usage but I believe it is not http. Must be UDP. If I try to use bittorent in the afternoon and evening, I have the same side effect but on top of that, downloading rate will hardly reach 2 kbps (yes, 0,2 mbps !).

I didnt fire up wireshark to see exactly what's happening. If someone can explain me that would be great.

Thank you.

Seems very odd that your router wouldn't be passing your http:/https: traffic. That's the bulk of what the thing is supposed to do.

I'd say open the router's web setup interface and see how it's configured.

Most of the options should be set to default/auto choices.

One thing that can have a dramatic affect on websurfing, but not affect P2P applications, would be bogus or broken DNS Server Settings. Suggest setting those to 'auto' for testing and see if that improves anything.  As always, suggest power cycling the router (Off/On) after saving changes and exiting the interface to make sure everything is clean on a reboot.

If it's a DNS (Domain Name System -- the url name to IP numbers resolver) then you might benefit from downloading GRC's DNSBench application and finding the fastest DNS for your service.

Hello RichCor, thanks for your comment and suggestions. I believe I wasn't clear... My router works very well as long as I do not fire up my bitorrent client. The problems just start when bitorrent is running.

That's usually caused by either by allowing your torrent app to have too many simultaneous open connections (starving the router of available connection table entries), or some router security setting that reacts badly when it encounters torrent traffic.
